  • I’ve had 12% of our portfolio in VWIAX for some time, but have paired it back by 1/3. With VWIAX invested in value stocks and intermediate bonds, its performance has lagged for several years. When I first started investing, I had bought into the l…

  • @BaluBalu - You are spot on! The shift away from VG Wellesley is to reallocate from a Value and interm bond fund, to separate equity and bond investments. These will go to a total equity index and individual treasuries.
  • Moved all our VSCSX to VG mmkt (5.28%) to be re-deployed into individual t-bills, notes, bonds (upcoming 3-yr and 10-yr auctions). Moved an overweight position in VWIAX to VG mmkt for future reinvestment to VTI, JQUA, and individual treasuries as w…

  • Submitted an order to buy 2-yr treasury notes at auction in both our IRAs. I’ve been moving most of our investment grade bond funds to laddered treasuries (bills, notes, TIPS).
  • Added to current position in VTI and considering adding to earlier buy of 5-yr TIPS. Update: Went ahead and placed an order for additional 5-yr TIPS in both IRAs.
  • Purchased 5-yr TIPS for both our IRAs.
  • Continuing to transition from bond funds to individual treasuries at auction; purchased 3-yr (4.5%) and 10-yr treas (auction on 4/10) in our IRAs. Will consider buying 5-yr tips on 4/11.
  • Added to current positions in OSTIX, RSIIX, and PRCFX in our IRA accounts.
  • Update: called the main IRS number and verified my identity so they could transfer me to the appropriate number, and once again having to verify my identity, which included: soc sec, tax info from 2022 and 2023, for me and my wife, our address plus …
  • Thanks, @Old_Joe!
  • Thanks @sma3. I’ll try those numbers
  • As my wife and I are retirees in our 70s, the market’s loftiness was beginning to cause a nose bleed. So I gave our VDADX and VTSAX investments a significant (for us) trim, and purchased some individual 10-year TIPS at the reopened auction.
  • Sold PIMIX for modest positions in RSIIX, RCTIX, and the bulk of funds into VG mmkt. Shifted funds from a singular focus on income to funds that include capital appreciation/preservation.
  • @Derf - Thanks for your question. My wife and I are invested in a similar ratio as you; much larger allocation to VWIAX than this new, very modest investment in PRCFX (just a toe hold). VWIAX holds a 35% position in an IRA requiring RMDs, and now t…
  • Shifted some funds from VWIAX to PRCFX and MMKT. Still holding on to a significant (for me) allocation to VWIAX thinking with potential rate hike cuts later this year, it would gain ground with its investment in interm-term bonds.
  • While investing in EQUITY index funds (VTSAX; VDADX), this retiree invested in some safety medium term with 10-yr indy TIPS, and 2-yr Treasury notes. I’ll let the equity side do the heavy traveling while the treasuries stay safe at home.
  • Yes, thank you, @msf!
  • @Old_Joe - Here’s a related post from the bogleheads… https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=374405 There had been a good deal of discussion there regarding defined maturity bond etfs.
  • Hey @Old_Joe - I’ve been interested in laddering their cousins, the ishares ibonds (IBDQ - 2yr and IBDR - 3yr) term maturity bond etfs, and as a full disclaimer, I’m a novice when it comes to these etfs and individual bills, notes, and bonds. The e…
  • @BenWP - Yes, it was David Sherman who proposed the challenge. I was intrigued with following the contest, so bought equal amounts of both funds in April. I’ve been thinking that OSTIX out-performance against RSIVX might be due to its lower ER, as …
  • This “bean-head” enjoys our Nespresso machine with Roma, Ristretto, Kazar, or Organic Peru coffee pods. Fill the water reservoir, heat the milk, or in my case 1% oatmilk, choose your desired pod, pop it in, press the button 2x, and as Jackie Gleason…
  • Just purchased 1-yr treasury auction in IRA and Brokerage accounts at 5.2x. Still not comfortable buying Agencies or CDs. Was also looking to purchase 2-yr treasury auction, but when it dipped below 5% I said, “nope.” Rather stay for now in VG mone…
  • Continuing to add minimum amounts to current positions in OSTIX and RSIVX. Waiting to see tomorrow’s 1-y and 2-y treasury auction on Wednesday. Hesitant to step foot in the secondary market for 2 and 3-y treasuries, though I’d like to lock-in thes…
  • @racqueteer - I was with AMICA for auto, umbrella, and renter insurance. Just gave our car to grandson and dropped the auto insurance. Rates for NYC were the most reasonable of all the others. Previously had Progressive, which pumped their fees ea…
  • Continuing to add to current positions in RSIVX and OSTIX. I look at it as a fixed income “barbell”component to our t-bill ladder.
  • @FD1000 - always appreciate that you have a system that works for you, along with the brass balls (can I write “balls” here) to support it. My “pair” are just fleshy and when they’re tweaked, I find it very painful; whereas yours… Still, I did hee…
  • “ You have heard the saying, "Buy low, sell high," correct?” So, my thinking goes, “why not wait a little longer…rest in the mmkt sweet spot with 5%+ for a while. The 3,6,12-month t-bills ain’t bad either.”
  • @Hank - point taken; and ooh, yes, let’s add an F) All of the above. Of course if it’s a test, we’re grading on a curve, yes? ;-) @Old_Joe - it always feels good when you’re understood. Appreciate you! @rforno - I like buying on down days, but… @sti…
  • Added some 6-month t-bills in the trad-ira.
  • Sold the remaining funds in our VG short-term treasury fund into VMFXX settlement fund. Preparing to invest in individual bonds beyond 6-months as well as adding to VDADX and VTSAX.
  • We’re continuing to rotate VG short-term corporates and treasury funds into 6-month t-bills at 5%+ and Mmkt at 5.3%. Got tired of watching increasing interest rates eat away at total return on funds.
  • @BaluBalu - I’m mentally pulled in three directions: 1) Buy the Dip in Equities, 2) purchase 3,6,12, or 2-yr treasuries, or 3) just leave the cash in VMFXX and collect monthly. Sheesh! What’s a retiree to do? Well, at least there’s a choice.
  • Bought into a 17-week t-bill on Tuesday and yesterday’s investments in VTSAX and VDADX. This after moving a chunk of VG short-term corporates to the sidelines.
  • Hello @Tarwheel - my thoughts are with you as I’ve become increasingly impatient with the bond funds I still own, having sold quite a few to end the money drain, investing in both Mmkt and individual treasuries. As you know, our bond funds have a h…
