As a bystander, I find a thread like this infinitely more interesting and entertaining than whether or not to buy Mr. Fox’s fund over somebody else’s. :)
(That’s not to say one is more meaningful or valuable than the other.)

Stock the liquor cabinet in advance. Try to be out of the country if you can arrange it (preferably nowhere on the North American continent).
@catch22 - Nice link. Thanks. I glean from it that that having a better, more inclusive, homeowners policy could possibly make adding umbrella coverage less expensive.
Good points on type of vehicle driven. Population density / average income in …
Catch - I can provide an update when I know more. Possibly the quality & coverage of such policies varies by company?
I’ve long elected to have insurance payments come out of my bank account automatically on a monthly basis. In the early da…
Catch - I haven’t seen the paperwork yet. They’re mailing it to me to look over. I’m thinking I might not have heard right on the phone. Could be a 6-month term. That’s how often the car insurance renews, Or perhaps the amount quoted is based on…
Right there with ya guys!. Agent called today. App is in the mail. About $80 a year. I’d never heard of one either. But the world was a much different place back when I first took out homeowners insurance in 1977.
Geez, you learn a lot here!
I manuvered in the direction of cash. Sold / submitted sell orders pretty much across the board. Should raise my cash level from around 10% to near 12%. Some of this due to caution - and some related to anticipated infrastructure spending.
You’re right @Mark.
I’d say there is a small subset that harbors racist feelings related to the VP. And than there’s some greedy ones who’d sell out their mother for a dollar. But most I’d say don’t understand WTF they’re doing. Have watched s…
What’s the attraction then? Tell me why he quite consistently runs neck & neck with Ol’ Joe (the other one) in the polls?
Are 40-50% of the U.S. population crazy?
Edit: Are nearly 100 million of our fellow citizens “Crazy as a loon?
@MikeM - Sounds like you’ve got a good system there. No plans to sell LCORX either. It’s considered buy & hold. … But forever is a long time. :)
I agree on the “in-the-head” part!
@Thanks @MikeM
Interesting numbers on risk scenarios. A little surprising it can be calculated so precisely. :)
Being able to add / sell shares at will is an important consideration. It’s a bit disconcerting to know that adding to an open-end mu…
Thanks @JD_co
You are correct. I neglected to look at the list of top holdings at M* where SPDN is listed. Don’t know why M* doesn’t display it as a short position in the overall portfolio depicted at top of page.
Yes - It’s all coming back to …
Pity poor Stormy Daniels. According to this week’s court testimony, she had to look at him making an indecent proposition clad only in boxer shorts and then get in bed with him. :) Tough way to make a living.
If I’m reading M* correctly, BRUFX is holding over 30% in cash while WBALX holds only around 8%. However, WBALX is quite heavily invested in bonds of varying maturities. Those bond holdings are substantial enough to lower WBALX’s overall equity w…
@hank - "a $12.50 can of Bud" ??? !!!
It was a 24-ounce can @Old_Joe. So … that would be like $6.25 a can for couple 12 ouncers. Prices in the area around the theater district are very high..
Thanks @catch22. - A nice hour + drive north when I worked in the Detroit metro area, Also known for a huge Christmas decoration store open 12-months. Remember a pleasant river cruise once on a stern-wheeler. Chicken dinners of course … Not far fro…
While it was never even a fleeting consideration (I'm a wild outdoors guy) I can now confirm that I won't be moving there anytime soon. Couldn't come close to competing. I do enjoy visiting however.
@Mark. I’m considering moving there so I may beco…
Don't look now but a utilities fund I follow (UTG) is up 6.5% over the last 3 weeks. Hopefully Giroux is on to something.
Yep. FSUTX is the first place I looked in trying to detect the likely culprit here. But it is up nearly 12% YTD. GLFOX is…
Frankenmuth is a small Michigan based insurer. Also does business in Ohio. Been with them forever.
Long story short …. Rented car totaled while waiting for a red light to change in Florida 15 years ago. “No-fault” state. When the steeply padded…
Thanks for the update @Old_Joe.
I happened to watch the NASA press conference late last evening. Five reps from across the spectrum, including Launch Alliance and Boeing. That relief valve you mention was detected “buzzing” (apparently by other s…
@Old_Joe. Thanks for the note. I got a little carried away responding to @Crash. You had it right all along. Also, I did correct an earlier reference to the Shuttle having 5 main engines. After checking, it had only 3.
@BaluBalu - I like your idea…
Correct me if wrong. But unlike SpaceX which uses its own in-house rockets, Boeing will launch its Starliner on an Atlas 5 booster whose first stage is Russian made! The linked Wikipedia article pertains only to the Atlas 5 booster.

But the Shuttles used multiple, smaller rockets, eh?
Umm … I wouldn’t put it that way. Very different vehicles. Probably the 5-engine first stage of the Saturn V had more thrust than the 3 onboard shuttle engines working alone. But the Saturn di…
Thanks all. Didn’t intend to entrap Mike. Small local agency. Good service. They shop out the best companies for me. Just want to maintain privacy. Shouldn’t be a problem adding on.
I’ve read online activity (ie critical remarks about a business)…
@MikeM - Why would they? I was (incorrectly) equating umbrella coverage to homeowners or auto collision coverage. In those cases an insurer won’t insure what you can’t substantiate you own.
I sense from the responses that medical insurance is per…
Quick question - Do umbrella policy underwriters require you to account for your net-worth and, more specifically, your financial holdings, when applying for coverage? A lot of it is probably public record and easily verifiable (like home, auto…
Win some … Lose some.
CCOR is now back on M*’s U.S. platform. However, I sold the fund last week after using it as a small hedge position briefly. Still - nice to see they finally got it right.
I do understand @BaluBalu’s point that the fund is lagging peers this year. And, like him, I try to stay broadly diversified across asset classes. Still, that +3.63% YTD would translate into something close to a 10-11% annual return if it contin…
Thanks for the excerpt @bee. There’s some mention of banks in the latest edition of the Wall Street Week thread @Crash maintains. The second guest (after Larry Summers) who manages among other things private credit speaks of banks today as a bro…
ISTM @Ted used to play the derby?
All I’m doing is losing about $2 nightly wagering on whatever MLB game ESPN decides to show. Much harder betting on baseball than NBA games. I’ve managed to turn a $41 balance at DraftKings into $24 in a week!
When I converted my employer 403-B with TRP after retiring in the late 90s they tagged it as a “rollover IRA”. Yet, when I moved that “rollover IRA” to other fund houses, they did not designate it as such - just as an “IRA”. So, ISTM that in my ins…
@hank - I concur, there really wasn't much useful content in the article. The comments almost always provide a better understanding/education.
Thanks for the heads-up @Mark. As a recent convert from the old Kindle format, I’m not yet fully accustom…
