Cryptic Amazon message

edited November 2018 in Off-Topic
I received this morning...verbatim....

Hello,

We’re contacting you to let you know that our website inadvertently disclosed your email address due to a technical error. The issue has been fixed. This is not a result of anything you have done, and there is no need for you to change your password or take any other action.

Sincerely,
Customer Service
http://DontClick.com

I have changed "Amazon" in url to "DontClick" manually because I do not want anyone clicking. Anyone get this message? The above is entirety of the message. Doesn't even have my name after "Hello". No "we are sorry for your inconvenience" or anything.

If this is legit, it's like they are telling me "So someone saw your email address, no big deal, but we have to tell you because if we don't then that might be a problem for us, blah, blah, blah..."

Now the URL is not misspelled. However, I'm not going to click or visit their website for some time. Which sucks given it is holiday season. MFOers visit Amazon and MFO receives something when they do, hence I thought I would share. My problem is "due to technical error". Huh?

Anyone else?

    Morn'in @VintageFreak
Not that this is of benefit, but this page has similar reports at the Amazon seller.central within the Amazon site.
I agree that the wording is strange and elementary, and I would not expect this from Amazon. If I received a similar worded message from Ebay, I would be suspect as to where the email originated.
We do have an Amazon account; but have not received any messages at this time.
---The linked page above has the newest comments at the bottom and will continue to refresh, if you check periodically. There will likely be more reports, as the day is still too early for many to read an email from Amazon and many won't comment at all at seller.central or other sites. I'm going to look for any Twitter feeds for this, as these tend to be more realtime.
NOTE: this is a current message posted at 8:25 by an Amazon user........
"I am on the phone now with support and sent them a screen shot. On hold for escalation."

  • @VF: Nothing in my mail box. Also I believe Amazon quit giving the kick back to MFO.

  • @catch22 unfortunately i am antisocial and don't do effbook and shitter. I did google and found this email did originate from amazon, and it is not a phishing attack, while it seems utterly shameless.

i'm going to try walmart for cheap holiday shopping this year.
