GEEZ, if interest rates get much lower.................

edited August 2011 in Off-Topic
we might have to consider buying a distressed MI vacation property or perhaps wait a bit for a 10 year, no interest deal for a new vehicle purchase. Our vehicles are past their 10 year hold period with which we always operate. Although the plan is to buy a nice used vehicle and save a few bucks. BUT, the economy has placed pricing, as expected; for used vehicles to much higher levels.

hank...........any good housing deals in your area ???

  • hmmm. i am hearing that the price of used vehicles is equal to the price of the similar new vehicles on quite a few models... everyone feels guilty to go new... check the value proposition before you buy, and yes, this is a good time to get something physical of value.
  • Hi JR,
One may suppose there are those who feel guilty about buying a new car. We just happen to have a pattern of a new car every 10-12 years. We drive the vehicle to a point of not be in disrepair as to cause a hazard to our, or anyone else's well being or safety.
With a related note, I recall a talking head on the tube and concerned about the ability of AutoZone and similar companies maintaining earnings. I do not find this to be a problem, unless company management has a big, brain fart. There will be plenty of folks for years to come who will indeed repair their own vehicles or have the neighbor do it for some cash; and buy the parts cheaper at an AutoZone or similar. Whatever it will take to not have to buy a "newer" vehicle, of which; the monies are not in their budget.

    Take care,

    Hi Maurice,

    The "MI" is for Michigan.

Agree about buying a used car from an unknown owner. We would shop this area buying from a good owner.

Yeppers. Can attest that used prices are high. Our domestic '09 mid sized bought new 3 years ago this month for under $20,000. With almost 30k on her it's blue-bookin for $15,500 trade in and around $17,500 retail. Actually risen past year even with more miles. Been chomping at the bit to trade her, but like it a lot and ain't any good deals on nice cars we can see. Lookin at similar equipped or slightly nicer new ones, we see $25,000 and up on the few left over '11 models and ya can add another 2-3 grand for a '12 model. One hand giveth and the other taketh away,
