BRICs And Beyond: Do Acronyms Help In Emerging-Market Investing ?

  • Acronyms are a help only to those groups who market them. Face it...Goldman Sachs was not the only company to benefit from their BRIC nomenclature of the large EM countries. As we have seen many times, investing in just the BRIC countries, or in the EM index, might be a mistake. For that matter, I think using an EM index is usually a mistake, except for those rare years when all countries are moving in tandem.
