PFF: Why You Should Give Preferred Stocks Another Look

FYI: For those of you who follow my links know that on several occasions I have recommended PFF, and individual preferred stocks.

  • We used PFF for 3+ years, buying it near the market bottom in March, 2009. We pretty much sold all of it last year as we saw prices of the holdings getting way too rich for us. Recently we are dipping our toes in Forward Select Income KIFYX, which we like to think is a better option going forward, with PFF owning the biggest and certainly most expensive preferreds. May be a way to play the preferred option for a bit longer. Expenses are higher, but we hope the fund will do better when things have a rough spell.
