Bizarre Investment of the Week

edited October 2011 in Off-Topic

Nimrod Doral Air One, a London market Closed End Fund. (there is actually a second fund, Air Two, as well.)

This is a fund based entirely around an airplane. One airplane.

Essentially, the fund leases out one airplane and shareholders get some - not guaranteed - income. When the manager *believes the time is right*, it will sell the plane and wind-up the fund, returning money to shareholders.

Remarkably, it's actually done rather well so far.

  • Reply to @Maurice: Very different. There's a fund investing in "commercial disputes"

(Burford Capital Limited is a closed-ended investment company registered in Guernsey and publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange's AIM Market. The Company’s strategy is to create and manage a diversified portfolio of commercial dispute investments with the objective of providing shareholders with attractive levels of dividends and capital growth. In the short-term, the Company intends to focus its activities on commercial disputes in the United States and on international arbitration matters; in the medium-term, the Company may expand its focus to other attractive and suitable jurisdictions.)

There's some wild stuff on the London market. There's a fund that invests in rare gold coins.
