Fund Manager Focus: Guy Pope, Manager, Columbia Contrarian Core Fund

FYI: The Columbia Contrarian Core fund may not always look contrarian, but that's because of manager Guy Pope's strict buy-and-sell discipline.

  • 5.75% front end load. Ouch, unless you can buy it with no fee.
  • I have the institutional version SMGIX as my second largest core holding, it replaced my shares in UMBIX when the manager retired. I owned that way before it became part of the Columbia family. Ironic that it is likely that fund will be merged into Contrarian Core. His style and David Williams of UMBIX were very similar. Thanks for posting the article Ted.
