John Waggoner: Europe, Deflation And You

FYI: shoes and German bands with names like Kafka's Love Child. And those are great things! But right now, we're in danger of importing deflation, and that's what's been messing up your 401(k) this week.
Deflation is a period of falling prices. Sounds great, right? And some cases, it is. The average price of unleaded gasoline, for example, is $3.12 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com, down from about $3.70 back in May. On a 15-gallon fill-up, that's a savings of $8.70. If you fill up every week, that's $450 in your pocket in the course of a year.
Regards,
Ted
