ETF Market Vital Signs, Dec. 8; Nasty Day In The Oil Patch

FYI: Weak economic signals from China, Japan and Germany mixed with heavy selling of crude oil to hand the S&P 500 its biggest one-day slide since the middle of October. Energy stocks were most under pressure, with some traders noting tax-loss liquidations in the absence of specific news on the sector. Oil-exporting markets such as Canada were dropped for big declines. Defensive bonds and gold advanced.
