The Trouble With Oil ETF's

A swan dive in oil prices has triggered a rush of money into exchange-traded funds tracking crude oil, as investors try to divine the market’s bottom. Before jumping in, remember that popular oil ETFs are fighting with one arm behind their back because of structural quirks that erode returns over the long haul, even if petroleum does rally. It might feel like déjà vu, because investors set themselves up for similar disappointment the last time around.
