Active Managers Have Almost Never Picked Stocks This Actively

FYI: Savita Subramanian, Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s equity and quant strategist, notes that so-called active share*, a measurement of how much active portfolios deviate from the holdings in a given index benchmark, is near record highs. The active share of large-cap “core” fund managers versus the SPDR S&P 500 (SPY) is sitting just north of 68%, up from under 62% in early 2009.
