Happiness State-by-State scores

Hi Guys,

"Be happy with what you have and are, be generous with both, and you won't have to hunt for happiness." That's a quote from William E. Gladstone.

Can money buy happiness?

Yes it can, but not in isolation. Happiness is a far more complex feeling with a host of contributing elements. And the level of happiness across the USA varies considerably state-by-state. Here is a Link to a recent national survey that used a formidable and comprehensive scoring system:

The referenced paper not only presents the survey findings, it includes a summary of the scoring units and weights. The results were interesting and a little surprising.

Note how close some of the state scores were when compared against one another. That challenges the effectiveness of the system to resolve any meaningful difference. That's not too shocking given the problem of precisely defining happiness in the first place.

I hope you find the survey results as interesting as I did. Who knows, but understanding what makes us happy just might make us better investors.

As famous football player/coach Mike Ditka said: "You are never a loser until you quit trying.”

Best Regards.
