Martin J. Whitman, Third Avenue Management Founder, Dies at 93

FYI: Martin J. Whitman, who made “safe and cheap” a value-investing mantra during more than two decades managing the Third Avenue Value Fund, has died. He was 93.

  • I started reading about Value investing because of him. I wish his firm had performed better without him.

    I interviewed Marty a number of times and always found him engaging and honest and funny too. He sometimes would curse like a sailor and it was hilarious. A true New Yorker of the old school. I will miss him.
