Lewis Braham: Think Twice About Buying Your Broker’s Branded ETFs

FYI: Anyone taking a cursory look at the John Hancock Multifactor Emerging Markets exchange-traded fund would surely be mystified. The fund is barely a year old, is lagging behind its peers in 2019, and charges a 0.55% management fee—five times that of its lowest-cost competitor, SPDR Portfolio Emerging Markets. Yet, somehow, it already has gathered $809 million in assets in a hypercompetitive market in which overpriced ETFs often die a quick death.
