What’s 20,000 points now days?

edited October 2019 in Off-Topic
The intra-day low reached by the Dow Jones Industrial Average in 2009 was 6,469.95. Today, just over 10 years later, the Dow sits north of 27,000 - a gain of about 20,500 points. My math says that’s better than a 400% gain over 10.5 years, or an average gain of near 40% yearly over those years. Assuming many of those stocks kicked out dividends, the gain for investors is likely even higher.

Here’s what the markets looked like in early 2009 for those too young to remember. https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/19/03/11312055/this-day-in-market-history-dow-hits-2009-financial-crisis-low
