Brazil’s Bolsonaro Seeks to Open Amazon to Mining and Hydroelectric

edited February 2020 in Off-Topic
“Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro has risked another environmental furore after his government said it would present a bill to open indigenous lands to commercial mining and hydroelectric projects ...The plans have generated domestic and international opposition ... A statement from the Climate Observatory, a coalition of environmental groups, said: ‘The [latest] proposal throws Brazil’s reputation further into the international abyss ... Responsible investors concerned with the climate crisis are unlikely to want to have deforestation and indigenous blood in their portfolios.’ “ Financial Times 2/7/2020
