Dick Fosbury passes - revolutionized the high jump in track and field

edited March 2023 in Off-Topic
Great short video here about the Olympic gold medalist in Mexico City 1968 whose engineering training led him to invent a new way to get over the bar; it became, and still is, the only way to fly in the high jump: the Fosbury Flop.

I grew up in a very kid-sporty neighborhood, with the 'hood's high jump stanchions and pit in a friend's backyard. We all learned the Western roll technique (which you can see in the video), but this Oregon kid came up with something better. It was real creativity. RIP, Dick Fosbury.
