Change to credit cards

Kohl's changed who handles their cards. Gal Pal was randomly picked to furnish SS # other info to keep her card current. She was told if she didn't provide info card would be canceled & it was! Yesterday she stopped at Kohl's to apply for new credit card. She needed to supply SS #. WTH is going on!? Other people we checked with weren't included at this time to comply.
Also her old card was good (?) until 2030. She was told it was a new law that went into effect. Then why not target every one?
Bottom of SS card says , NOT to be used for ID. Yah right!!

  • Hi @Derf Capitol One cards became a 'Visa' card. A different legal entity.
As to the SSN requirement; this became rules changes from the 'Patriot Act' enacted after 911. All financial contracts had new rules to 'detect money laundering'. You may have received an update from/for financial accounts and related stating these changes.
Can you think of a financial account that doesn't require a SSN?
  • @catch22 Thank you for info & I'll relay it. Marcus to Barclays trade off.
