How Many Fund Managers Is Too Many ?

Comments

  • Here is what I posted at M* Fund times.

My VHGEX peformance started deteriorating as soon as they started adding sub-advisors. It has three now and had four until recently. IMHO, V'rd is doing disservice to its investors with its multi-subadvisor philosophy. Most of their best active funds are still managed by either one subadvisor (Primecap funds, VDIGX, VWELX, etc.) or at the most two. Majority of the multi-subadvisor (> 2) are mediocre funds.
