spooky season song list

having noticed minor overlap of musical taste with others here, i boldly offer my top sinister\delightful spooky playlist. the great thing about music is personal evolution; half of these would have been different a decade ago.
in reverse order :

bury a friend-billie eilish
brain damage-pink floyd
lullaby-cure
Science Fiction/Double Feature-joan jett version
hell's ditch-pogues
haunting-pogues
pyramid song-radiohead
climbing up the walls-radiohead

caution : although list is free of overplayed favs and heavy metals, use near kids may still induce trauma.

separate list for instrumentals :
great pumpkin ensemble-vince guaraldi
funeral march-thom yorke
fool-neutral milk hotel
we suck young blood-sanguinetti instrumental version

Good list! Very eclectic. And good gif.

Other than "overplayed favorites", I submit Enter Sandman (Metallica). But, it is heavy metal.

Also, The Dead South - In Hell I'll Be In Good Company.
Perhaps, Mudcrutch - Lover of The Bayou. A bit of a stretch re: voodoo.

I also think that I have experienced big musical evolution in the last decade.

  • am excited to try out those last 2 !
have always been a latecomer to all my fav bands. most dont have music matches for holiday-themed lists, and this may be the longest.
  • The Edgar Winter Group
    Frankenstein

    Miles Davis
    Miles Runs the Voodoo Down

    Dr. John
    I Walk on Guilded Splinters

    Focus
    Hocus Pocus
  • Hi @Observant1 In the early 70's, I was the only fella in the area who had high end hi-fi/stereo systems and the knowledge of equipment types and full setup. I became involved with many in quality equipment purchases and then the setup assistance. I was associated with a quality retailer on the east coast and did received a small commission on sales, but the real reason then was the vast high quality equipment choices that were difficult to find then, in many areas. I spoke with a former neighbor a few weeks ago who still has a nice set of JBL speakers from that time. The Edgar Winter Group, Frankenstein record cut was and still is the ultimate test song for system performance and speaker placements from the wide range of instrumentation in the song.

Next: The below link is a fresh redo of the Monster Mash (The Monster Slash) song from 1962, with this new version from just one week ago. When the video starts, you may have to move the RED video 'slider' to the full left to start the video from the beginning. ENJOY !!!

    Hi @catch22,

It seems like Frankenstein would be a good song to test speaker placement.
Thanks for the link to Monster Slash.
Bob Rivers, a renowned DJ, created many song parodies he called Twisted Tunes.
I thought Rivers created a Monster Mash parody but couldn't find it — someone else may have produced it.

@a2z I am 100% certain that you will love both songs. Lover of the Bayou is one of my favorite Petty songs. And that is saying a lot.

  • @DrVenture,

I just listened to Lover of the Bayou.
I really like the song — it has some tasty guitar licks by Mike Campbell.
    Thanks!

A few years back I redid the foam bass speaker surrounds on my Cerwin Vega AT-10s. Old and brittle, but basically like new now. My JVC RX-701V, from same era still works perfectly. I use them to spin vinyl. Not super high end, but fun nonetheless. More like late 1980s.
