CEOs Find Trump’s Interference Distasteful

“'When the U.S. government starts to engage in corporate America in a way that tastes of favoritism,
I know for most CEOs that I’m friends with, they find it incredibly distasteful,'
Griffin said in a conversation at the WSJ Invest Live event Tuesday in West Palm Beach, Fla.
'Most CEOs just don’t want to find themselves in the business of having to, in some sense,
suck up to one administration after another to succeed in running their business.'”

  • From the article:
Under President Trump, Griffin said he was also bothered by business deals that benefited family members of the president and administration officials, such as when lieutenants to an Abu Dhabi royal bought a 49% stake in the Trump family’s nascent cryptocurrency firm just before the inauguration. The Wall Street Journal earlier reported on the $500 million investment.
What can go wrong? That is worse than shadow banking.
  • Oh they do huh. Who would have ever predicted that. Duh!

Maybe if they fired all their lobbyists shoveling funds under the table to get laws and favors passed that benefit them. Maybe quit buying the votes of congressmen and senators that reflect what you want rather than the needs and will of the majority of the American people. Maybe if they all banded together and decided not to contribute anymore corporate funds to tax-dodging PAC's would be a small start. Most of them partied hardy when Citizens United was passed but are now crying "why doesn't anyone like us" in the aftermath of that colossal dung heap.

    "Friends,

Buckle up. Primary elections start in a few weeks.

Primaries have become increasingly important because, as American politics has polarized, most Republican or Democratic candidates who prevail in the primaries will win the general elections — so primary elections are often where the action is.

So, what determines who wins primaries? I’d like to think it’s the quality of the candidates. But while quality certainly plays a part, it’s also the size of their war chests for buying advertising to promote themselves and disparage their opponents.

These war chests depend increasingly on a few big, loathsome super PACs* that usually finance challengers from the right — in both Republican and Democratic primary races.

One of the most important national goals in future years should be to get big money out of politics. (As I’ve written here, we can do it without amending the Constitution or waiting for the Supreme Court to reverse Citizens United.)

In the meantime, though, it’s important to know what and who we’re up against. As a good rule of thumb, you might watch whom these super PACs support and vote against them."

My thought exactly. This was entirely predictable. They threw in their lots and now are going to have to live with it or fix it.
