The last week has been good preparation for playoff pressures....nicely done Tito.
If the party in power wants to gut the program, why should an insurer hang around to be caught in the detritus? The pullout of providers is simply due to the impending demise via the hands of the GOP...nothing more.
I currently use 5....SSTHX, ZEOIX, PIFZX, SUBFX all in tax deferred, plus VWITX in taxable.
PTIAX also resides in my tax-deferred account, but I don't consider that as a cash alternative holding. But, some may say SUBFX isn't either, and that may b…
What's the word which is the opposite of "uplifting"? That would describe this article.
It sure would have been nice to have seen the normal and customary 10% corrections more frequently over the past few years. The spring is wound very tightly.
As the article noted, it would be interesting to see how he is currently invested, but the 30% cash is instructive. When reading this, I couldn't help but recall the FMI paper I posted earlier...as many of the themes are the same.
I was going to add to their international fund, but they certainly paint a gloomy picture...of course, not sure what the options may be other than sit tight.
@msf, I agree. Mult sector or multi Asset funds are a great way to get exposure.
@BobC, OSTIX is a good choice as it provides a monthly distribution and a decent yield to boot.
I believe OSTIX provides distributions on a quarterly basis.
The list of countries is about the only similarity....I've seen quite a few conservative sites such as the one you linked to, try to rationalize the action taken by pointing to President Obama.
Sorry. Apples and oranges. Additionally, the ham-hande…
South Carolina is a beautiful state, particularly the coastal areas. Charleston is my favorite city on the east coast. And if my portfolio would cooperate, I'd love to spend more time on Kiawah.
RPMGX clipped the threshold for a haircut in the taxable account, so a third of the proceeds went to a T, VZ add on and the rest to dry powder. This completes my telecom allocation.
It was almost exactly 2 years ago for a similar haircut for TR Pri…
In the discussion portion of a @PRESSmUP link I found this Optimal Retirement Planner:

Bee...that's a pretty handy worksheet. I spoke to my rep at Schwab earlier in the week about planning a Roth conversion strategy. I am going to …
Bee...I have $15K going out the door each year for a combination HC premiums and deductibles. I am investigating an HSA to see if this can help.
thanks
PRESSmUP , just wondering why you believe having equal funds between taxed and tax free accounts is a benefit as opposed to most all in tax free. I understand in your case the taxed account came from inheritance so there was no choice, but it doesn'…
Bee, et al.....if we can collectively configure a foolproof way to generate income, we should write a book and retire to the islands.
In my particular case, I am fortunate to have approximately equal funds between taxable and tax-advantaged account…
Hi Bee....the link appears to address a fairly straightforward question about what to do with an tax advantaged account when you retire. Your question seems more nuanced...how to generate a stream of income from your accumulated assets in both an IR…
Bee...that article came out prior to Mnuchin's testimony yesterday, where he appeared to walk back some of his earlier comments. I think the pending court decisions will be as big a factor here, if not bigger.
You do need to watch out for managers who essentially mirror an index by their breadth. That's why something like FMIJX is appealing...it holds only a small basket of well-considered stocks...and lives or dies with their performance.
Per the article..."Still, there are likely to be some people who face challenges, including those with low incomes and those with pre-existing conditions."
Yes...there's that. I wonder if this author has an understanding as to what insurance compan…
I usually look at the nominees to make sure none of them are managers I'm invested with. Unfortunately, there is one this time.
I can understand that view most of the time...but this list actually has a lot going for it. I'm happy as a clam to own …
Yesterday, I added a slug to SFGIX. That advances this holding to a full position, and completes my allocation for EM equities. I'm considering bumping up EM debt by adding to TGINX, but haven't pulled the trigger.
For all else, I'm still sitting o…
M* is a site I use for data...but take their opinions with a grain of salt. OSTIX is one example, plus their dismal ratings on several funds I own which are classified as short term bond holdings positively reviewed by this site.
On the plus side,…
One component which is rarely mentioned, is the long term cost impact of the near term coverage of preventive care procedures. If 20 million or so folks now have access to blood pressure, colorectal and cervical cancer screenings...etc, etc, etc,...…
I would think that allowing insurers to negotiate drug prices would have a significant impact on overall healthcare costs. Unfortunately, when a bill was introduced in December to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices, or even to import lower pric…
Crash...the answer may lie in whether you feel emerging markets is a space you want a part of your portfolio to occupy. If yes, then it's a good position. Not sure if there's a better option than this fund in that specific area, IMHO.
Nice one...what a classic tune. I treated myself to a pair of new desktop speakers for Christmas, so what a great way to break them in..an Oscar nominated tune from "Orchestra Wives".
By the way..did you notice "The Great One" on bass at around th…
