The last week has been good preparation for playoff pressures....nicely done Tito.
Thanks vkt for the well thought out and detailed post.
I think the "lumpy distribution" is an aspect which was not taken fully into account (or ignored) by the market overall, and the party for the bio's may be moderated in the near term as a resul…
Thanks heezsafe.....I saw they downgraded HCN from outperform to market perform, and then 2 weeks later to underperform.
That series of actions seems to be rather odd.
Will....I am re-evaluating my bucket 1 allocations, and BSBIX would be an ideal fund for that purpose. But you are correct in that VWINX is very different and offers greater opportunity.
At the end of this month, I am swapping out of BERIX and into…
As I'm always looking to buy income when it's on sale, HCN (Healthcare REIT) took a 7% haircut this week due to a downgrade by BMO Capital (whoever that is). And then today HCN announced a 4.2% divi increase for a 5.69% yield.
I'll be buying an add…
I've been following Theranos for awhile now, as its technology has the opportunity to be uniquely disruptive to the delivery of healthcare services both inside a hospital/clinic environment and outside as well.
The technology does have a 'black-box…
It's not like I'm all cash...I have 35% in equities from prior account activity. But for this transfer, I'm considering the fact I already have a plus 20% or so equity gain based on my sitting on my hands since the middle of last year.
So, as I sai…
Hi Ted...thanks for the link. This is a good synopsis as to where we are, IMHO.
Not surprisingly, it looks like the end of last week may have been a head-fake. As I have the bulk of my 401k transfer still sitting in cash, I'm looking for what looks…
For the past year, M* noted that ARTGX was punching above their weight, so to speak. Given circumstances, I expect FMIJX to hold an advantage near term however, so I hold both. Similar to heezsafe, I am impressed with the fund, and the firm.
BUFSX was a really nice fund for many years when it first started out. I was drawn to their investment thesis based on demographic shifts, and it worked for many years....until it didn't.
REITs had been performing well before getting swept up in the madness today. So, I added to WPC and VTR. When O drops below 50, I will add to that as well.
Even the most conservative of funds in this sector is suffering...Vanguard HC (VGHCX) down more than 8%, which I also own. But I'd rather own an up and coming biotech than anything in the oil patch...but, that's just me.
Yes, kind of ugly...not too surprising really since "risk off" rules for the moment.
This is a real opportunity...if you wanted to sift through the debris and place a wager on one or two. The urge for bigger pharma to acquire new compounds has not …
Hi Bee,
I went through this same thought process over the last few years as I transitioned into retirement in June of last year. The benefits of this bucket system should be clear given recent turbulence. It's nice to be sitting on a few years of e…
I didn't hear the phrase "Drill here, drill now" at the debate earlier this week. But I did hear someone on that same network blame the current administration for the over supply of oil and the resulting loss of oil service jobs.
I really did LOL w…
Hi Old_Skeet
A few weeks ago, a fairly well known smart guy on the TV spoke of possible support levels on the S&P. Seems like we blew through the first at 1968 and are on our way to test the next at 1862. If that doesn't hold...he spoke of 162…
While I normally don't try to read and interpret the tea leaves, one early trend line I do pay attention to as a general leading indicator for the health of the market is the DOW Transportation Index.
Not looking good over the past few weeks.
Thanks Ted...a nice start to the new year...and little5bee with that go blue nonsense is probably happy as well as that team up north destroyed Florida.
Happy New Year to you as well Ted.
Hi msf,
Per M*, "The fund sets a monthly dividend and attempts to stick with it for at least a year. Prudence demands that number be set lower than what the fund's holdings actually produce each month in order to avoid a shortfall, and there's usua…
This appeared to resemble 2011 in many ways on the equity side, as many solid dividend payers lead the way within my portfolio, as they did in 2011.
I tend to ignore the FANG stocks or anything resembling them....for me, they are simply traps.
I've held PONDX for the last 5 years, and in each year they've had multiple distributions during December. This is by design.
Is this year's occurrence of multiple distributions in December unique from prior years?
A $5 million bond? The bond should be raised the same level as Turing raised its pharma price. The judge should have said that it was $5 million last week...this week the bond is $255 million.
Thanks....FYI, I was up in Novi this past weekend for an unusually temperate visit with family. Nice area, with great restaurants and markets. I think you are generally familiar with the area....or at least that one school close by.
Thanks...I have some mad money in IRA and taxable, so depending on distributions this may be a good candidate for one or the other.
I suppose the caveat here, is that a lot of strategies work...until they don't.

Hi little5bee,
I noted this firm earlier from a comment of yours many months ago. Is this the specific fund you own? If yes, any hints that someone else may have "broken their code" to render their strategy moot? The tax efficiency on Morningstar m…
Funds like THESE, you HAVE to Time your Buys.
What you are suggesting is market timing. Works for some, not for me.
When you follow the advice of the fund manager who says to reduce your exposure to the fund and to stay away from small caps in the …
