@yogibearbull Thanks for reply. A few years back I had a margin charge! I called the rep & told him I had no margin account, he said he'd look into it. A day or two later & charge disappeared. Operator error I guess.

Thanks @Tarwheel , that's what I was thinking. So in my case, take my RMD & have brokerage with hold taxes, then do conversion, but stay below next tax rate & pay taxes from taxable account.

I don't know if I would sleep well with 10>% in a fund. At one time that may have occurred. Only T bills & notes in that 10% or higher range as of late.
