rono,
We need a good stock market crisis - one that will take the markets
down 50% or more.
All of this talk of fiscal and economic reform is just that – talk.
We need a damn good growling bear-market plunge - I mean the kind that rips
the marke…
Buy the banks?
I remember that several people here were doing that… because they
claimed to be getting in ahead of the herd.
That was in October and November… of 2007!
I wonder if their dream is still alive.
Of course, now may be a better time… b…
JohnN,
Thanks for responding to my question... but I thought that you had been investing
for a much longer time.
FWIW, this morning looks (from a technical analysis standpoint only)
like the possible beginning of a bear market rally.
If so, the S…
JohnN,
I assume that you are a long term investor.
Since you share your short term returns, how about posting your long term returns…
like 3 years, 5 years, 10 years, and longer.
I think that would be more in line with the articles you attach re…
rono,
Thanks for the update.
I'm buying a small batch of gold coins soon with some
profits from my S&P short position. And my plan is to buy more at a later date
when I cover the rest of my short.
It's sad that investors have been groping fo…
Nearing a bottom?
Could be as the computer buying should kick in as we near that level.
Actually, tracking daily price movement can drive you crazy... and I'm proof of that :-)
Best to just relax and look in on the market on a weekly basis.
Then lo…
When was the last time you saw the Dow futures down more than 250 points proir to the open?
1090 on the S&P would be a 20% decline from this year's high.
Dear MJG,
Thanks for the link.
FWIW, here's the result of a simple trading strategy using one of the SMAs
used by CXO.
We’ll use a 200-day Simple Moving Average on the SPY (S&P 500 Index ETF).
We buy at the end of the month when the price has…
VintageFreak,
You’re using an Exponential Moving Average.
Add a 26 period Simple Moving Average to your chart and look at the difference.
This is slightly slower (longer time period) and will smooth out some
of the weekly volatility.
Notice that i…
A challenge?
A challenge is a call to engage in a contest or battle. Your challenge sounds one-sided.
You want to hear from someone who uses TA because you’re convinced that
it cannot out perform the market.
But you didn’t offer to square up agains…
Vincine,
If that is a serious question, then the answer is -
if you don’t know, then you shouldn’t be doing anything.
We’re in a trader’s market – computer vs. computer and
there is some big money being made and lost quickly… so, the question migh…
Rono,
SDS fell to my stop @56.50. I'm out if the last half of the trade with 24% gain.
Will wait to see where we are at near the close... I think that today is just a
reactionary bounce (bottom fishing) and the market will soon head back down.
Rono,
Sold about 1/2 of SDS position at the close.
A 29%+ profit.
I'm not promoting quick trading and don't recommend it.
I only tell you this because I mentioned that I bot SDS and so I'll follow through and
post when I sell it.
Again, I think t…
ono,
I very much agree with your cautionary comments.
BTW, I did sell some silver coins a couple of months ago at around $36 because
I thought it was near a top. Anyway, it was a nice profit.
But I'm till holding gold - since around $1,100.
Anywa…
Hi Rono,
In response and directed to the board in general...
This country is sliding down a rat hole.
Not to pick on MJG, who on May 31 forecast that the S&P 500 Index
would close the year about 173 points above Friday’s close,
but I think …
If you are going to highlight the most highly recommended books,
these won’t make that list… but for years I’ve recommended these to students
of my investment classes and they have always been well received.

It's interesting to speculate on the market moves on a macro and economic level.
It's also interesting to note how the market internals work.
In this respect, albeit mundane, the exchanges are operated by members.
Members care little about trends. W…
