Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Mark,
You've already gotten plenty of great advice, but let me add just a couple of things.
1. If you want to, you can keep using just your Mac. You can follow any of the options Investor offered. Also, for most software, there's some method to co…
Hello, Joe.
This, I think, is one of the cases that might be too much work to be practical. The "Mark All Viewed" was a add-on for the discussion board that had been created by someone else, and posted for anyone to use. That makes it easy for us. …
Actually, as the code stands now, it sorts in ascending order by the title that's displayed for the commentary. So, any of the date formats (I often use the YYYYMMDD myself) wouldn't work well, without rewriting the page to look at another field. Fu…
Unfortunately, I can't remove that width restriction without doing other work on the site. It keeps the forum fitting within the framework of the navigation and such. That other work may be happening soon, but not really soon. In the meantime, you c…
Hi, Investor.
I'd uploaded the new fix a couple days ago, but we had a problem with it still reading old versions of the file. Accipiter had an idea for fixing it, which seems to have worked.
Hello, all.
I'm back under power, and mostly caught up with my day job. I'll be happy to post new files as they become available. I've sent a note to Accipiter, so that I can make sure I've got his most recent version of each file before I upload i…
I'm seeing the problem, too. I wonder if it's browser based. I'm using Chrome. I'll go test some others.
Edit: I cleared my cache and also tried Firefox 5.0 and still see the problem.
I'm not sure that there are any easy fixes for either of these situations. I've spent some time checking the settings and looking for patches, to no avail. We may need to actually dig into the discussion board code to find a fix.
Hi, Maurice.
A private conversation is like an email. If you click on another member's name you'll go to their profile page. On the left, there should be a link to send them a message. That's the beginning of a private conversation.
When they rep…
Hi, again.
I've added an option to "Flag" a post for the moderator. I'm not completely satisfied with it, but it's a step in the right direction. You'll notice it at the top of each post, right next to the "Reply" link. It will ask you to enter a r…
Hi, everyone.
I've removed the spam, and the 'members' associated with it. I'm looking at another plug-in that will allow members to report a post. I'll keep you updated.
Thanks for the vigilance.

I've been keeping my eye on a few plug-ins, particularly "In this discussion," but I want to give Brad a chance to finish the major work on the site. For now, I'm mostly helping (or not) a little here, and converting some of the archives.
Hi hank,
I tried to get rid of old pics, but I accidentally took your new one out. I'm very sorry. Could you upload again and we'll see if it fixed your problem?
Thanks, and apologies.

Any other information you can gather would probably be helpful. If you can figure out what sequence of events leads to the "orphan draft" it would be especially good.
I've poked around in the discussion board settings and, so far, I can't find anything that might fix this. I'll search the help section at Vanilla Forum to see if they've come up with anything. I've also not experienced this problem myself, but I've…
Hi, everyone.
I'd like to apologize. I closed the thread, rather than delete it, while I sought advice from David as to how much moderation he'd like on the boards. His advice is "less is more." So, I've reopened the thread in question. Debate away…
I apologize for closing the thread, while I sought clarification from David. It's now reopened, and so long as there's no abuse, it will remain that way. As always, I am learning.
My apologies,
