@hank, if you do not mind, pl share how you picked BAMBX over other alternatives. M* chart shows the fund made 0.13% over the past 1 yr but the chart does look steady.

I should have concluded my mid-night post better. The conclusion is that if one were to make idiosyncratic bets one probably should go with a proven active manager than using passive indices. The only active real estate OEF I ever invested is BREI…
Dallas firm expects to hand back keys to 19 hotels, including two in Plano
The Plano properties are among a portfolio that would have required a paydown of $255 million and $80 million in capital spending.

thanks, David. 3% turnover is close to no turnover. I do not worry about turnover.
I also do not worry about cash levels. I give a manager a lot of leeway -I do not believe in micro managing the manager. I certainly would like GOODX to succeed…
Why are bank loans projected to be effected by maturity / refinance in 2024 if they are already making their interest payments through at least 9-12 months of 5% fed fund rates? Presumably they are floating rate loans and the rates have already bee…
I do not have access to WSJ but it would be interesting to know if Covid had anything to do with this behavior.
For example, many retired (or forced to retire) suddenly, with no immediate plan to retire when Covid struck. These retired folks need …

Many (most?) of us get seduced by good story telling - after all that is one of the seductions of generative AI.
Fool me once . . ., fool me twice . . . and all that. I thought there was plenty of time between SVB collapse and First Republic co…
Google and BRK (top two holdings) comprise 23% of GOODX per fact sheet. Those are among the few single stock investments I have in my portfolio for more than a decade.
I have held some mutual funds for decades but the one time I ventured into a …
@yogibearbull,
I signed into twitter and was able to see all your posts, which is what I needed (just read). Then I made the mistake of clicking on the "Follow" button and your posts are no longer visible. Same problem with all 15 posters I tried…
Barron's this week has a positive Cover story and a positive Q&A on real estate. Suggestion is to start bottom fishing cautiously. Sure, there are concerns and lots of bad news, but when everything is hunky-dory, prices would have moved up alrea…
"The list of "closed"/member-only sites is long and growing."
So, that forces one to sign up with each site, even if one wants to just read. Most sites these days say one can sign in with "Google" / "Apple" or go through a multi step process and g…
@msf, IRS rules specifically allow one in this instance to take a deduction for the Accrued Interest paid in the year paid. There is no magic or transformation suggested.
"Expense paid in advance. An expense you pay in advance is deductible only…
I was surprised to learn this, though this does not apply to me -
"Market discount on a tax-exempt security is includible in taxable income as interest
income."

@msf,
It seems I can take a deduction for Accrued Interest in the year paid (and not wait until the next year in which related coupon payment was received.)

Thanks, @msf. That is very useful. I will study links in your post / the subject and post if I think anything useful can be added; otherwise, this is my last post in this thread.
Just an FYI for others, the Constant Yield Method vs Ratable Metho…
I still have to figure out if I can defer accrued market discount (on the Treasuries) as interest income until received (may be with an IRS election) or I will have to calculate and report the market discount in the year(s) it accrues. As a cash ba…
Thanks, @msf. For purposes of completeness, a slight correction to your guidance.
Your: "Declare the full amount on Sched B, line 1, and at the bottom of that line you subtract the accrued interest paid to the seller as a "Nominee Distribution"."

Thanks to @hank for chiming on the power of Barron’s cover signal. I know that there is a general notion of magazine covers being contra signals but was not sure if that applied to Barron’s cover. Thanks.
@yogibearbull,
What is Barron's cover history for a signal?
I thought the following from WSJ talking about bullish sentiment is comical for the picture they chose to use -

Hi @davidsherman,
How do you manage flows (via brokerages) into your funds to protect continuing shareholders in volatile markets? For example, if the fund receives material sell orders, you will have to market (sell) holdings in the next 24 hour…
Grandeur Peak's negligent behavior has been discussed many times before in this forum. Just repeatedly issuing mea culpa via fund manager commentary is not good enough. There is no change in Grandeur Peak's behavior. Fool me once shame on you and…
@msf, Sorry, I do not mean to offend but I tried to convey this more politely many times before. You are always welcome to provide more specifics, without saying / indicating others’ broad, general statements are wrong, especially when those statem…
