Drop it.......Marsico is bleeding talent, and I am begining to suspect that Tom is starting to worry about paying his bills. That was really the only fund that was attracting new money.........If you look at FUM in 2007 compared to now, it is not ev…
I think that this fund is great.....great manager, strong performance, interesting investments......but it just really isn't offerend by many online brokers. I contacted Bretton Fund a while back and inquired as to when they would be available throu…
On a related topic, but different individual....Does anyone know whatever happen to David Decker? I thought he was supposed to start his own investment shop.
Seems like they are having an identity crisis.......I think that their new boss has been reigning in some of there more renegade practices......some get it like Brian Demain....others wanted a little less "oversight". I know why David Decker left, b…
I too am very interested in this fund. Hopefully it becomes available in more fund marketplaces soon. I contacted the fund and they told me to keep annoying my online broker about offering......needless to say Fidelity really didn't blink an eye whe…
I think it is funny how managers who tout their flexible appraoch and ability to jump on great investment opportunities and out of bad ones continue to let their funds grow and grow and grow......FPACX, FAIRX, YACKX (I know it is large cap focused, …
MNDFX does already have a track record as does RNCOX.....but a combination of the two strategies seems interesting in a lower ER than RNCOX. It is a pretty distinct strategy as far as open ended mutual funds go (not many focus on CEFs)
Recent performance has been strong. Their new small cap value fund also seems to be off to a strong start.....in what I have read they are very fearful of concentration and veering from the benchmark in their equity funds.
If you go to Grandeur Peak's website they do a fairly good job of describing how they built the shop and hired "truly global" analysts, vice focusing on sector or country specific. I owned WAGOX a while because the expense ratio was 2.25% at the tim…
Whenever this happens to good funds from smaller boutiques I relate it to what has gone on at Royce since they were bought by Legg Mason.......especially the past 5 years. It will take a few years for investors to feel the effects. Royce was bought …
The fund was too big to begin with, but more than that, most of royce's more popular small cap funds are too big.....leading to the firm having too much AUM firmwide to execute their strategy appropriately. I think the acquisition by Legg Mason migh…
Just because John Montgomery is a great person, I find it hard to support the notion that he is a good steward of investors money. Sure, he did basically pay people to own BRAGX, but there in is the problem. BRAGX, in particular, has not beat the in…
Unfortunately no.....value funds that hew to closely to benchmarks don't do as well (or maybe I am crazy) and they are tying all theres but two (Leveraged Company Stock and low Priced Stock) to benchmarks.
About 3 months ago I invested in APPLX Appleseed Fund. I am far from a SRI investor, but his fund is unique and seems like it can go anywhere it wants in the market.
MAPIX and MACSX both have considerably lower expense ratios. SFGIX is clocking in at 1.60% last time I checked. The Matthews funds seem like the way to go for me.
I am not a huge fan of sprawling portfolios, although I do hold one Fidelity growth fund, mainly because of its cost and manager........True, the fund is very concentrated, but the small collection of stocks is interesting, and I like to think (an…
I like OAKIX as well....and of course...JAOSX always comes back with a vengence when international markets do well. I am also intrigued by WTIFX, although it would not really be "bouncing back". It has performed very well the past three years. I als…
I think that continuing this assault on people who INVEST in companies through taxation is the wrong answer...we need to create more taxpayers. Soon we are going to have a ceiling that people do not want to strive to go higher than because the amou…
I have been watching this fund since its inception.....the ONLY reason that I have not put a substantial investment in it is the fact that Chuck Akre is 70 years old or older. Not too sure how much longer he will be around.
Reply to @Shostakovich: I know what you are saying about the Legg Mason issue, but I would say that RYVPX started to become mediocre even before Royce made the official change to skinner......and the portfolio was much more sprawling by that point t…
I have owned WAGOX in the past, but sold it when the managers left, and sort of got the jist that Wasatch was going to let this fund grow larger than their other small cap funds. I do agree that Wasatch is a fine small cap shop, but I felt like this…
I agree with what you are saying for the most part, but two funds in particular give me pause....RPFFX and RYVPX.
RPFFX is a more concentrated "best ideas" fund that did not close until it was close to 6 billion (the second time if I remember corre…
Maybe the expense ratio will come down as more money flows into. Apparently the investment team has had alot of success with their other accounts. We will see.
