I've never quite gotten the obsession with low expenses, despite having read several books about it. All else being equal, sure, I'll take the lower expenses. But rarely are "all things equal."
I am in the process (will do over a 2 year time span)…

Mark makes a very good point. Maybe I'm wrong, but my sense is we have very few "stay-put" type investors posting on this board. There's one notable exception (And I'd rather not go there, thank you.)
Hi hank,
I am a "stay-put" investor. Leaving o…
Hi bee,

A nice lower Standard Deviation combination throwing off some nice income, is a combination of VWINX and PONDX.

I sold half of my MACSX and moved it to SFGIX. I closed an orphan position in DIBRX. I bought some BRK.B

As you know SFGIX is up 16% YTD. And, being I recall hearing or reading from Mr. Fosters recent conference call that he does not expect…
My investment in Vanguard Wellington began almost 30 years ago. Can't find many better and steadier performers.
I could not agree more or think of a better steward of my money than Wellington Management Company.

Maybe next time I will go to Mexico.

I am a resident of Panama and the prices can be great and quality of care top notch. I know a number of Panamanian dentists educated and trained at the best schools in the …

I had a shock just before I left. My doctor gives me a prescription each year. Last year it was $68. This year $109. I'm sure the cost for the pharmacy didn't go up that much. In another episode I didn't mention, the wife was coming down with sinus …
When Lou would sit at the big table and the weekly guests would join him, sometimes there was a *very good-looking* female in the mix. I don't remember her name but I wouldn't mind seeing her again. :D

I had a lot of luck with PQTIX in 2014, but less so in 2015. I am having better luck with AQMNX in 2015.
I watch my positions in these two funds very closely.

Tampabay,
PFORX is primarily getting its return from price appreciation and not yield. The current 30-Day SEC Yield is 1.21%, but the fund is up 11% over the past year.
There are a lot of moving parts and the success is dependent on elements such …
Hi BobC
I have had quite a bit of success with PFORX over the past year or so. I am thinking of cutting back a bit and with the proceeds opening a position in PDIIX.
What are your thoughts regarding these two funds going forward.

Mulder,
Since you are considering VASVX, you might want to look into VMVAX for the following reasons.
1. VMVAX is more of pure mid cap value fund. 36% of VASVX is large cap.
2. VIMAX has superior 1 and 3 year returns and while Admiral shares have …
I don't know what is on your list, but here are my takes. The new banner and the next two lines from the discussion page, take up half of my laptop's screen. The good news is that as I scroll down they disappear.

Bee,
Why are you posting something a year old --- did you look at your link? am I missing something? --- and which was not true then and less so now? Whose debt bubble? As a percentage of GDP? What? All too widespread, and wrong, way of thinking ab…
