@ MFO Members: I was just out of high school when book came out. The subjects of the book are John Quincy Adams, Daniel Webster, Thomas Hart Benton, Sam Houston, Edmund G. Ross, Lucius Lamar, George Norris, and Robert A. Taft.

@ JoJo26: You said, "I can't believe how short-term oriented this forum has become." I couldn't agree more. Its not good enough to has a fund like PRWCX with outstanding performance results over the last fifteen year. A number of MFO Members like …
@davidmoran: You are correct, I used the wrong index fund (SPY). So let's look at the index fund I use IVV against XRLV. As far as risk/rating, I not a big believer in the MPT. If your happy owning XRLV is the keys to the kingdom rather than ju…
@Lewis: Yes. for three years, XRLV returned 0.4% more than PPY. However, the cummulative returns are XLRV 12.86% and SPY 13.97%. If you consider an .04% as being alpha, I have a bridge to sell you. How about the expense ratio's ?

Ted
@larryB: I consider the additional interest of 1.34% well worth the call. You don't ? Why would you post " " REALLY? What year is this? 1988?" which is silly and childish. Grow up!!!

Ted :(
@MFO Members: Davidmoran is" seeking a little alpha around SP500", so far that hasn't happened with XRLV. Let's look at the three year return for XRLV and SPY. Low volatility rate around the S&P 500, please. These niche mutual funds only prove…

@ MFO Members: Here is the difference in yield between Morgan Stanley's Sweeps account and several of their Money Market Funds. Proceeds from sells, dividends, or interest are automatically transferred to Bank Sweeps account. In my case the differ…
@Junkster: While I have your attention. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you say some time back, that if the S&P 500 hit 3,000 by year end, you would roll a peanut down Walls Street with you nose. Guess what, get ready to roll !

@MFO Members: Speaking of high-yield, on 2/8/17 I bought 50 Hertz 7.375% B3 1/15/21 bonds at slight discount of $98.12. The bonds closed yesterday @ 100.750. So far so good.

@Old_Joes Thank for linking Kathleen's slant on the subject. Over the years I have linked dozens of her articles here at MFO and FundAlarm. As a financial writer I have found she does her homework..

@msf: Thanks, forgetting link has happened a lot lately, maybe that's telling me something !

P.S. One of the things on my bucket list was to own Malibu beachfront property. Never got around to executing the plan.
@VintageFreak: You said, " The only reason I have multiple brokerage accounts is because I've over the years become a COB, and worry about scandalous behavior from people at any brokerage sharing same genes as Bernie Madoff and want to protect mys…
@Lewis Braham: Why is it that you must make a negative comment on a simple straight forward article. You said, "these eco guys—meh. It cheapens the word." Typical Lewis nonsense !

Ted :(
@Old_Joe: If you keep that up I might start to like you. Na !!!!

P.S: He was a gem, but just like me at times he was a pain in the butt.
@ Old_Joe: You get an A+ in figuring dividend yield. You said, "f you had paid $14.75 per share, then your yield would be 13.4%? Since a stock price could vary significantly over a period of time, different owners would of course have different pu…
@Old_Joe: Dividend yield is represented as a percentage and can be calculated by dividing the dollar value of dividends $2.00 paid in a given year per share of stock held by the dollar value of one share of stock $29.50. $2.00 divided by $29.50 =6.…
@MFO Member " If you think a dividend yield of 6% from a stock with lots of revenue growth potential doesn't exist -- think again." The Linkster bought T on 12/19/11 @29.50 per share. The stock has had modest capital appreciation, about 2% per year…
@sea: You said, " I am not a short term trader, but still, 6 months are too long, in case something comes up and you need to sell. " That's hard for me to understand when dealing with mutual funds. They should be long-term investments, that's why…
@Mark: I guess your never to old to learn new tricks. Thanks for the info on Ares Management, L.P., 7.00% Series A Non-Cumulative Preferred Units. That' a new one on me. As you might know I own KKR, BX, APO limited partnerships that generate K-1…

@rforno: Beg to differ with you on PRGTX being a great fund. It's perfromance over the last fifteen years doesn't match what I consider to be a great fund. You are right on QQQ's sector allocation only 56% technology, about 25% in Consumer Staples…
@willmatt72: I'd give Spencer until the end of the year to see if there is an improvement in returns, if not move on. The Linkster has always been a big fan of the Q's that has had an superior annual return record over the last fifteen years.
