“Generally, Fidelity funds have a $0 min.”
@msf - Does that mean that if I send $10.00 (ten-dollars) to Fidelity I can open 10 accounts in the amount of $1 each in 10 different funds? If so, I’m just crazy enough to do it!
Most (if not all) of the funds at T Rowe Price have a $1,000 minimum for an IRA (including Roths). Not the lowest expense ratio in town, but reasonable. You’d be setting him up with one of the most respected outfits out there.

Hi Ol’Skeet - I’ve kept around 10-12% in commodity related funds for the past 2 decades. More bad years than good. I hung in there because I figured that, like John Hussman, I was bound to be “right” some day. Who knows where the stuff will be a …
As @Mark noted, miners were up about 2% today. While there’s some correlation with the metals, the miners often seem to go their own separate way. On a really good day, look for the miners to pick up 3-5%.
I have limited exposure to miners and c…
Yes - Very good stuff from OJ. What I did was split up the “pot” I’d set aside for extensive travel this year - particularly for theater / cultural enrichment. With no travel due to Covid, that left quite a surplus. Part I reinvested when the m…

I happen to live near a swamp. I like swamps. Swamps serve a valuable service to the environment. They cleanse the water and replenish ground supplies for dryer times. They he…

I remember Ed’s depth of knowledge as well as the “wickedly sarcastic sense of humor” Mark references. His last post ISTM was to the effect he didn’t want to participate in a board he characterized as “Links Central” or something fairly close to tha…
With 390 “hits” and climbing for this Jim Cramer thread, somebody must be listening to Cramer and / or similar talking heads. Outside of PBS, is there anything worth watching on TV? Personally, I truly enjoy following the various financial ma…

Thanks @BenWP. Noticed yesterday that that article is available in audio form through my subscription to Audm. Am putting it at the top of the list for my usual late night listening. Do recall “much ado” early in T’s administration about munch and w…
+1 @sma3, Nice analysis.
I disagree a tad bit. Near-term the whole process could be messy and roil markets as it unfolds. Speculators playing that potential (perhaps months of uncertainty, heated rhetoric, court hearings, media hyper-ventilati…
Anyone else pondering this risk?
Yes. I’ve pondered it since roughly November 9, 2016. But I ponder a whole lot of things. Folks ponder all sorts of solutions to vexing issues. So the options Larry tossed out are no doubt being considered by some…
I was in a “fret” over some problem with American Century funds some time around year 2000. In searching for an answer (or perhaps just some comfort) I came across Fund Alarm. I bravely posted my concern and Maurice was the first to respond in a fri…
Do nothing and stop being emotional and dramatic.
I kind of agree with 1k. Perhaps for somewhat different reasons. This and many other scenarios have long been contemplated and factored into investment positioning by investors with far longer time…
msf said, FDRXX: 0.01% (-0.10% without fee reduction) Wow. We’ve now arrived at negative interest rates (at least without fee waivers). I suppose it’s happened before with mm funds. But still a startling proposition.
Mr. Caldwell is certainly prolific if nothing else. I admire his self-assurance. But I’d feel better if these kinds of bullish forecasts came with some kind of insurance. :)

“The average money market fund is now offering dividends of about 0.09%.”
That doesn’t sound right. I don’t invest in money market funds, so have no idea what the better ones return. I just checked my cash substitute, TRBUX. At the end of June Fi…
@Starchild,
You need to look at the fund @rono moved into. It’s not an equity fund. It’s a local currency (unhedged) emerging markets bond fund. A very dicey proposition. So, while equities may have been a great buy in March, the dollar was still …
The whole rotating-discount/cash-back thing is a turnoff to me. Every quarter or month you need to remember which card to use to maximize which benefits ... too much work! I stick w/my Amex Plat and Amazon Prime Visa and keep things simple so I c…

True, some brave Governors like Michigan’s Whitmer followed the early CDC advice and imposed stringent lockdowns & closings - only to be confronted by gun-toting lawbreaking Trump supporters hell-bent on “liber…
200,000 projected Covid deaths in U.S. and estimates are rising. Where can U.S. apply for foreign assistance? Something like the Marshall Plan that rebuilt Europe after WW II - only in reverse.

If a president shoots his vice president can he pardon himself?
Don’t know. It would seem constitutional.
- Next question: If the Vice President shoots the Prez and becomes President, can he pardon himself?
- Let’s extend that a bit further: …
I call them different things:
- T. Rowe sounds more “official.”

Pretty much been on auto-pilot the past month. Mentioned cutting back on miners a week or two ago, but still have plenty of exposure - and gold just keeps running higher. Watching a smallish stake in PRLAX, purchased in late March purely for exci…
@msf did a much better job reading the article than I did. I “cheated” by relying too much on the headline alone. Great quote from article.
