Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
RPSIX is not a bond fund - as I understand the term commonly to mean. Never has been. The Prospectus (at last check) allows the fund to commit anywhere from 5-25% of its assets to Price’s Equity and Income fund (PRFDX). If you don’t already know,…
Not surprising, the poorest performing sleeve within my portfolio, not counting my demand cash sleeve, has been my investment cash sleeve which is up 0.1%.
Geez - I’m having trouble keeping up. I’d swear cash was the “hot” place to be only a month…
Thanks, Puddenhead, Pretty much nailed the pin on the head ...
- Normally a Prez likes to get that recession out of the way early in his / her first term. The hope is to have things turning up before he / she runs for a second term. That didn’t hap…
Eventually Amazon would probably also try selling shares at the Whole Foods meat counter.
Running funds sometimes bears resemblance to sausage making.
“Spicy Hots“ anyone? :)
Thanks @Ted - An informative discussion.
Some take-aways:
- Reminds me a lot of Peter Lynch 30 years ago. Both are / were more concerned about product, and much less so with price performance, technical indicators or indexes.
- Loved his comment…

@Crash. Dunno about Bloomberg (doubtful). If interested, just google her name + “fiddle” + “Utube”. There are several clips quite easy to come by. I came across this interesting aspect of Quinn by accident while looking up her biographical info -…
It probably was the bottom because I moved a chunk of retirement assets to cash that day and missed the 1000-point rocket.

I’ll be buying this one from Amazon as soon as it’s available later this month. Christie also narrates the audio edition of his book (not yet out). And while I’m far from being a fan, I’ll admit he’s a very good speaker. Should be a good listen. htt…
Lots of reasons here to tune out the money honey, raccoon lady, bloody lemur or whatever. Bloomberg’s Vonnie Quinn has more brains than Bartiromo and also plays a pretty mean fiddle.
Have a Kenmore washer, dryer & canister vacuum cleaner all 20+ years old and still running fine. The name has always been highly respected. That’s a bit odd - since Sears was known to brand devices made by assorted manufacturers with the prize…
"9dupp" is a well known internet term that means "to heck with you Ted, I can post whatever I want".
Well, the “upp” part makes sense - sorta. But he doesn’t specify just what or where @Ted is supposed to put it?
We can speculate, of course ..…
@MikeM,
FWIW - I compared Hussman’s HSGFX with the Oppenheimer gold fund I own.
10-year performance: HSGFX -5.02%. OPGSX +1.40
Based on that, you’d have been substantially better off in gold. Admittedly, he’s a pretty “low bar” to top. :)
@Hank, these are not normal times when HSGFX has a better 1 year return than PRWCX :) I tend to agree with @wxman123. These long/short or market neutral funds generally under-perform over time compared to a good balanced fund. So moral of the story…

In the past I’ve shunned gimmick funds. However these seem not like normal times. So, for some investors I think a “gimmick of choice” in the range of 10% of holdings might not be a bad idea.
Thanks @00BY for enlightening us about this one.
Has anyone figured out why T. Rowe offers 2 distinct lines (“Retirement” and “Target”)? I looked at the 2015 version of each and both have a glide path (which grows more conservative over time) and both earned Price’s “Moderate” risk assessment. If…

@Starchid, Thanks,
I don’t have an answer as to whether this fund is the optimum choice for you. But I think if you could close your eyes for 15-25 years and not look at it, you’d be quite pleased with the compounded return. Trouble is, most of her…

While 40% might be a tad high, I agree more with @msf here. Bogle is generally a lot of “bluster.” I doubt even he agrees 100% with everything he says. (But I’ll acknowledge his contributions to mutual funds / investors).

Actually - I’ve heard he has a phobia against shaking hands. But than again - who would want to shake his?
Warning: Should you be brave and ever shake the ***‘s hand, just be sure you count your fingers afterwards.

Not to belabor this - but I retired more than 20 years ago making $70,000 at the time (1998).

@Ted,
Are you saying PG&E will declare bankruptcy? Why don’t you spend your time improving your own hasty responses rather than critiquing & chastising others?

Not necessarily. It might be like the Coriolis effect. When things start going down the drain, they only rotate in one direction.
