Looks like @Mark may lose his Governor. I’m not at all familiar with waltz, Walt, wall, Walz. (My spell-checker isn’t either.) Hope he knows how to kick a**.
Gold’s interesting. GDX was down 5 or 6% in early morning.. Must be lot of fun if you got 30, 40% or more in the stuff. Miners down lot more than the metal today. Yeah. Good old Japan. I remember something like that many moons ago.
IMHO, Joe should have announced he was bowing out soon after the midterms so there could have been a full primary process. …..
Perhaps. But had he, Trump might have picked a more acceptable running mate. In a sense, the Dems set him up by waiting …
I]n the second half of 2021 ... The prices of cars and parts were jumping and drivers were back on the roads and crashing left and right after a hiatus behind the wheel. "You went from this period of incredible profitability to incredible losses in…
Here’s a 2017 MFO thread on the subject.
I may just create have to create my own “go anywhere” fund myself through ETFs and funds. It maybe easier to run my own “hedge fund” like fund myself. Finding one currently that meets my needs is harder than …
I can’t remember when Buffett wasn’t building cash. This “not finding much to buy” has gone on a long while. Albeit - He has picked up some new additions in recent years. But Hey - with short term credit yielding north of 5% who can blame him? O…
Mike McKee is always good. One of BB’s best analysts. Did anyone mention that sharply falling long term rates (as last week) lead to a more inverted curve?
Mostly a wasted show largely occupied with several mostly political interviews (thinly v…
I’ve dug up one more from Barron’s EKBAX

Do those betting markets have a line on potential VP picks for Harris? I think highly of Mr. Pete Buttigieg - sharp, smart, articulate, classy - way over the top of anything the GOP has anywhere for anything. However there is a deep pool of potentia…
Wow. No dip buying in this forum!
I guess it depends on your definition of ”dip”. Both the NASDAQ and S&P are still up more than 20% over the last 12 months. Both are ahead by 12% YTD. Not all “dips” are created equal.
"Hello, Darkness, My Old Friend"

Personally, I lightened up on NSRGY (+3.5% today) and added mostly to LSST, but also to WEA and GAA. More like slow trolling for trout…
Fido’s site was uncharacteristicly slow when I placed several orders shortly after the open today. Maybe a lot of “dippers” scooping things up? (I lightened up on NSRGY which was up 4% out of the gate but has since backed off to 3%.)
NIKKEI fell 5.8% overnight. U.S. futures look shaky..
Will some of the FOMC (Federal Reserve Open Mouth Committee) members saddle-up and ride to the rescue today?
Interesting trivia today from Bloomberg Media (August 1, 2024)
”The words ‘Federal Reserve’ were on track to be mentioned about 380 times on second-quarter calls with analysts, according to a Bloomberg analysis of transcripts of S&P 500 and Sto…
Thanks @Anna. (I deserve a whipping.) Just glad ESPN brings me a baseball game every night so don’t need to listen to all the shouting!

Reed has a rather strident delivery. I only listened a bit. Felt like she was shouting at me. The right has a scary vision of our future for sure. So I agree with her underlying premise. Not being religious, it makes me sick some would have the …

Not really understanding options very well I dug up some information from the fund’s prospectus and also about ELNs from another source. Possibly this may prove helpful for other ”Options Dummies” like myself.

All true @AndyJ
I sort of dug myself a hole trying to appraise @OldJoe’s reference to what the founding fathers envisioned. Surely they did not envision an out of control SC. But early voting was far from ideal, excluding women, slaves and non pro…
Half cash and half balanced? For a young worker? Just no
An optimal portfolio for many young workers (early 20s to mid 30s)
would be allocated predominantly, if not entirely, to equities.
After all, young workers' risk capacity is great and equiti…
I was apparently wrong in suggesting the Constitution could be amended to abolish the Supreme Court. I don’t have a source, but when I posed the question to Google’s AI here’s what came back:

Until @Joyes replies to the MFO board's inquiry, we are all guessing.
True. There is a big difference between being 25 years old and 75 or 80 in investing posture. Sounds like @Joyes has little experience. Maybe he / she is quite young and new…
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't this country's founders worried about exactly this type of situation? And now we have a Trumpian "supreme" court that's aiding and abetting. Serious trouble here, folks.
You’re not wrong. The founders established…
Thanks for the correction @davidrmoran. (Regan / Reagan.)
FD did not say anything untrue. He merely “misread” my original post where I referenced a hypothetical 40-50 year time-frame. His examples did not meet that criteria.

FD - You misread my sentence. I said ”after 40-50 years”. PRWCX did not even exist 50 years ago.. David Giroux was 1 year old at the time.
