If they pour a lot of research funding into it like they did with weapons of mass destruction, MFO could send in a proposal like "Studies of the Influence of Alien Presence on the Variations Seen in Market Indicators" or "Alien Sighting Induction of…
” … except for a short period last summer haven’t had any meaningful position in junk for several years.”
Thanks for the reply @Junkster.
Yeah, other than a bit in a short-intermediate term H/Y muni fund, I haven’t messed with junk in years.
”It just seemed to me that the overall tenor of the comments constituted a pretty conservative investing approach for a young college graduate.”
That’s good sense if someone is working, contributing, dollar-cost averaging in. In the grandson’s cas…
I bought HYDB in 2021 and its down about 12% but might be about even with Div. I enjoy the monthly div @ over 8% but ALL I read is one needs to sell bond funds. Does anyone have any input on how safe it is or is it time to sell. PV shows its been a…
@hank, MBB has more volume (and AUM) than GNMA if liquidity is a criterion.
Maybe recommend that one to @Crash? Own neither. Haven’t compared them, except noticed that MBB has a much lower published ER. Not sure GinnieMaes would fit his needs. The…
Fidelity. Great reputation, available 24/7. The website? i was just on it tonight attempting to do a simple thing for a friend who has money with Fidelity. That website is the clunkiest, cranky, user-unfriendly piece of junk I've run into in quite a…
90% in bonds? Fine by me. Share away.
I don’t have much “pure” anything. Prefer to give a manager some “wiggle room” running a fund and not lock them in to “pure this” or “pure that.”
Hope @FD1000 will answer those 5 questions about his thread I …
I wish someone would leave a card on my 2012 Honda Accord with 83,000 miles ! Air conditioning is blowing hot and cold-thought the problem was solved August 2022. I'll find out tomorrow when I take it to the repair shop !

- Would a fund like RPSIX (an income fund with 90% bonds and 10% equities) be acceptable here, or must all the funds discussed have 100% in bonds?
- Does the name bond have to be included in a fund’s name?…
@BaluBalu. Thanks for your question. However, FD’s comment below makes sense. So I have completely deleted an earlier discussion of BAMBX in this space because it is not a bond fund and does not belong in this thread. In addition, I will delete my…
There was a good discussion of this issue perhaps 2-3 months back. ISTM I initiated the post after getting hit with a 15% “foreign tax” on an annual distribution on an ADR (Swiss based). I’m unable to find that thread. But if anyone can pull it up …
Yep, happy days are here again may be the theme song
looking ahead for the bond universe if the inflation + rate hike story is really fading as the numbers show now. Which is the story Pimco was telling in their last outlook.

Nice NYT article posted by @LewisBraham
Some of these toy trucks are beginning to show up up in northern Mi. That 360 degree turn might be useful for military or law enforcement application. Difficult to see how it will help the average person …
Just to add to that - Precious metals turned up sharply today as the dollar dropped. Lower U.S. interest rates going forward could cause the dollar to slump over time. Silver gained around 4.5% today. Gold was more subdued, but had a decent day…

@msf - Nice explanation. Thanks. I missed it because ISTM an asset might appreciate by 740%. So, never bothered to think that’s not possible on the downside. (Thankfully)
I just hope people aren’t paying for this “analysis” - or, for that matter, buying whatever the robot likes and doing themselves harm. I will say, there’s a trove of useful data on M* if you care about return history and what is inside a fund. I ap…
100 shares more of BHB just bought.
Any particular reason? Are you averaging down? Sorry, I don’t follow this particular stock.
Personally, I’m down to just 2 stocks - both small speculative mid-cap plays. Prefer managed funds for the most part. …
”As @hank said, there is a sameness to the computer generated text. The writeups have a fill-in-the-blanks feel, like Mad Libs.”
Nice to get something right for once.
:)
But - It can fall 90% an infinite number of times. 90% x 8 = 720%. :)

Thanks @msf / Those numbers don’t comport well with what I’ve been seeing. (But facts are facts.)
Fidelity appears to think that CEF fees are often deceptively presented. From linked article: “Don’t Be Fooled” / Expense ratios: Seeing through th…
The CEF I mentioned is labeled a ”Global Natural Resources” fund. A bit misleading as they do hold a significant portion in mining stocks (WPM & RIO, for example, which I used to own). Leveraged CEFs are crazy animals. Not for everyone.
Yes, thanks Catch. Too much to comprehend for some of us old farts who watched Howdy Doody on a big fat black & white tube TV. Math, even simple addition, was done pretty much with paper and pencil until electronic calculators came onto the …
“ET Energy Transfer plodding higher “
I don’t know anything about energy. I do think the precious metals / miners are starting to look interesting. Silver’s had a hot run this year. So, gold’s probably more promising at this point. Miners popped 2…
I love some of Hemmingway’s novels. But, yikes, his trademark choppy, sometimes awkwardly staccato sentence structure wouldn’t seem that difficult to imitate. Fear we’ll end up with a boatload of excellent Hemmingway imitations - yet devoid of the …
I bought the wrong CEF Friday. Historical performance too volatile and fees too high. Have better one in sight, but need to wait for $$ to settle before selling the former. Meanwhile it has bumped up nearly 1.5% today. With some luck will be able t…
What is this going to do to the publishing business? Who’s gonna pay to read the WSJ or NYT if their AI robot can print out similar (or vastly superior) content and analysis on demand? ?
I ask because i have been trading in and out of a business …
You could save the trouble and buy just about any CEF if you enjoy the volatility. Down 30% and than up 40% not uncommon. And the manager does all the buying and selling for you … typically for a 3% cut - give or take.
Might also enjoy the film…
Well said OJ. Greatest military power on the planet doesn’t have “enough ammunition”? All those mega-million dollar defense contractors couldn’t gear up production during a war that’s been going on over a year? WTF? Who screwed up?

Library patrons should be able to access Barron's via Proquest.
Thanks. Will check when can no longer receive Kindle editions.
”However, the corresponding written reports are often nonsensical.”
Yes, I think it’s the written reports that I’m seeing. Some interesting content but mostly mundane garbage IMHO. If they pop up for free worth a quick read.
+1
Interesting @Bitzer. It might pay someone to open a small account at Fido just to have access to that tool. AFAIK $1 gets you in the door. Fido doesn’t have any minimum investment amount that I know of. :)
+1 Nice summary @Yogibearbull.
Their emphasis on intermediate duration bonds seems to be pretty much limited to investment grade. I haven’t read much of this issue yet. But find the following title bemusing …..
