Thanks for that update. Bridgeway also manages a couple of LC funds for Calvert, one of which was a socially responsible fund that Bridgeway used to offer.
I believe that Bridgeway does not participate in No Transaction Fee programs at major brokerages, so if you buy their funds in a brokerage account, you'll pay a fee to buy and to sell. You can, of course, purchase shares directly from the fund. They…
Those of us who owned the Morgan Stanley Frontier Markets CEF, FFD, now own shares of MFMPX, but the symbol is MFMIX. FFD was open-ended in 2012. After looking at a listing of all the share classes of this fund, I see why there are thousands of MFs …
Thanks very much for these suggestions. I was using the first option you asked me about. I had my bookmark set for the MFO home page, from where I navigated to the Discussions. I didn't realize there were different viewing options for the discussio…
Reply to @OregonDan: I too had some FFD, but I have kept MFMIX. It's tough to find an equivalent CEF and the frontier market ETFs are decidedly unattractive. I'll watch WAFMX.
Bought a little more FEO today as discount is around 12%. Trouble with such an allocation fund is that it really gets hammered when EM stocks and bonds go down together.
Back in the day, the FlavrSavr tomato was going to be the next big thing in AgBiotech. The genetically modified fruit was supposed to keep in a ripened state for three weeks on the shelf. The company, Calgene, cost shareholders (me included) a prett…
SIZE is an interesting ETF in concept. Hard to get a handle on a fund, however, that didn't trade after 11:00AM on Monday, July 22nd. Maybe size does matter.
The two previously unknown managers seem to be carrying the ball pretty well since Rao's departure. I own a fair amount of this fund and I keep looking at it for signs of weakness, but none are apparent yet to my eye.
I have owned this fund for several years. It keeps chugging along and provides the bare minimum by way of shareholder reports in black and white. Recently sold PRPFX, which I used as part of my conservative allocation, but I'm sticking with the Bruc…
Barron's publishes the Herzfeld indices every week in the CEF data section. The equity index measures only 15 funds, however. The discount-premium index is worthwhile. That chart shows that on the whole, CEFs experienced big increases in discounts a…
For my money, which ain't saying much, fund firms (TR, Oakmark, Marsico) come to mind) should tell investors the real reasons for prominent managers' departures. I'd be more inclined to leave my $$ with the firm if it said, "He got greedy and we wou…
I endorse David's suggestion that members might be interested in CEFs; I think they are well worth the extra effort required to understand them. It strikes me that folks on the board are looking for income streams and "go anywhere" managers. (See di…
I have not sold any MFCFX since Rao left, but I am wary. Based on the discussions above and what I have observed while owning the fund for about four years, I'd say it's a growthy World Allocation fund. I agree that it has rarely had a significant b…
I reviewed my e-mails from TD Ameritrade. I did receive the annual report on Dec 6; hidden at the end of the manager's discussion of the year's performance is the paragraph you cited above about reorganization. Other than that, nada. I e-mailed Turn…
Just added to my position in GPGOX and I like the looks of Grandeur Peak's international fund (GPIOX). These guys had a fine record at Wasatch and are fast out of the gate with their own funds.
Thanks for all this info. To the best of my recollection, TD Ameritrade did not provide such notices although I will have to review my e-mails to confirm if I missed something. I pay pretty close attention to this stuff.
Thanks to all for the comments and advice. I am a long-time investor in several Oakmark funds and I established my largest non-retirement account position in 2005 in OAKBX, with the goal of using it to anchor my active portfolio. My intention was to…
My two disappointments were RSEMX (Royce Special Equity Multi-Cap) and CIPSX (Champlain Small Company). Other members have spoken about Royce's trying to put its thumb in every pie these days. I have now severed all ties with them. CIPSX did not ben…
Despite the miserable performance, and not just this year, Clyde McGregor has managed to get himself all manner of media coverage. Re-open the fund? Gimme a break! I thought the departure of Studzinski was very mysterious and not handled well by man…
This article also makes the case for owning a health-care fund. Never thought of my HQL as a fund for the long haul until I saw these numbers.

In addition to the high ER of WGRNX, the fund's holdings really turn me off: 4 out of the top 10 stock positions are tobacco companies. I couldn't hold my nose and buy this one even though I have no socially-conscious funds in any of my accounts.
I did try to place an order at Schwab for test purposes and I was rejected with this message:
"We cannot process your order for this fund. Please contact a Schwab representative for assistance." No problem at TDA where I do own some. Sorry to lead m…
