Reply to @Art: "No taxes to be paid in a ROTH." ........I'm confused? I thought the advantage of a ROTH vs. traditional IRA is that with a ROTH, taxes are paid when due, not deferred; then, when withdrawn, no taxes are due. Already taken care of. (?)
CORRECTION: DLFNX +.03 cents or 0.28%...... Double Line always reports late.
BONDS: DODIX + .02 cents, or 0.15%......... MAINX +.06 cents, or 0.59%....
PREMX +.09 cents, or 0.72%.......FNMIX + .10 cents, or 0.64%...... BOND +.35 cents, or 0.34%.
For the single day on Friday, M* tells me that my particular mix was flat, standing exactly EVEN, compared to yesterday, Thursday.
1-week:
DLFNX...flat
MAPOX...1.65
MSCFX.............2.39
MAPIX...2.92
MAINX........... .49
MACSX....1.72
SFGIX....…
Yes, a good number of us are already in Seafarer SFGIX. It had been underperforming. Quite underwhelming, until just very recently. But Foster has a great reputation, and I'm still counting on his acumen to show itself with a rising share price, be…
I found the article to be interesting re: the information and considered thoughts being shared, even if the style/presentation was a bit uninteresting, boring. It is clear and thorough, and the writer is clear about the parameters he is covering. I …
Thanks for the reminder. All the flags are down at half-staff, of course. Surely we'll see some awful but very familiar film footage from that day on the news tonight. I was in Roswell, NM that day, when I heard about the terrorist attacks.
The article makes sense to me, but is true only in very general terms. One must still do their own due diligence, homework, research and make their own choices, based on their own circumstances. The headline is an attention-grabber. There's nothing …
Right on point, MikeM. I am not suddenly surprised by what's happening in my portfolio. That's just a fact. It is what it is. I suppose like everyone, I wish I could see around corners. Political junk that's going on right now (and for how long?) is…
Yes, for sure. Understood. It's rare for a little old ordinary retail investor to find bonds worth buying, and that do not require a huge bunch of money in order to own the thing. High minimums are the rule! :(
Bummer.
Thoughtful responses. Lots to chew on. My timing has never been a matter of attempting to "time the market." But often enough, I go and deploy a bunch of money just before some awful shit happens. That's MY kind of "timing."
Today, I note, the 10-…
...Not able to do much worth mentioning at the moment. Just added to MAINX and a great deal more to MAPOX...... The latter is doing better than the former, for sure. I have been, and remain, severely underweight in US equities and domestic bonds--- …
Interesting. Yes, I see it. Fascinating, the statement that the Chinese (and Asians, generally?) are "biologically more vulnerable." Why on earth.....? But then I read: "poor nutrition in utero and over-nutrition later in life." So, it's not in one…
Poor nutrition must be part of this picture, with so many Chinese still not yet in the Middle Class. What did you have for dinner? Rice. And maybe some salt. In the cities, buying in supermarkets, are the Chinese purchasing meat that's been hormone'…
".....The increase in the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield since May 22 has caused the bond market to become oversold and sentiment extremely bearish. This suggests the bond market is ripe for a rally...."
I sure hope so!
Laugh............And NEVER do I hear a word about the "other" one: DLFNX. I did not want to follow the herd, so I chose to invest in it, rather than its "big brother."
Right. My biggest bond position---PREMX--- was down today, as well as the much smaller holding, DLFNX. But my MAINX was up by .02 cents... I'm continuing to hold (and grow my share total) in PREMX in order to concentrate a meaningfully large monthl…
"Some investors are taking heart over recent positive economic data from China and Japan, which appears to be spurring activity in the rest of Asia. Strong European manufacturing numbers this week and a broader U.S. recovery have added to a guarded …
Non-frontier EM: The ones I will mention already get lots of attention here in MFO. That would be: SFGIX, MAPIX, MACSX. I own them all.
You're right about Frontier Market funds doing better over the past year. My TRAMX is still up 18.63%, despite …
"Investors hoping for 5% to 6% yields in income-generating equity and bond funds will likely have to lower expectations over the long term..."
Maybe so. I've seen one or two of my own have their yield drop, but then come up again a bit--- a result …
Well, while I was still working, my options were limited, and if I wanted a 403b at all, it had to be un-matched. Period. So, that's what I did. I was able to do that for only several years, but it certainly added up to a substantial portion of my t…
SGENX. Do you seriously want to have $5 of every $100 summarily taken from you for the "privilege" of GIVING them your money? That's my reaction---despite any investing success they've shown. Why on earth, a LOAD?!
......Sorry. There must come a…
"Tactical" long/short.... Do I understand what this is? I dunno. Leveraged? Hedged? I'm not sure. It just might be right for you, indeed. I see you'd be holding some of the same funds as myself. But your Asset Allocation looks a lot more neat and tr…
