Well, honestly, a great deal depends on what else you're holding. Surely, you have some equity funds? How are you situated, domestic, global? Give us the full Monty.
As a side note: BERIX is a solid very conservative hybrid. I own a similar domest…
I'm up to nine---all open-ended funds. Too many for my liking, but I'm living these days with some 403b residue which has been rolled-over to IRA. And I like the way those funds are behaving, so I'm not going to dump 'em yet. To further diversify (s…
I'm holding LOTS of PREMX. Yes, your premise makes sense on its face. But since (early) retirement, I'm watching more Bloomberg tv. There are still FOREIGN places where interests rates suddenly, surprisingly, drop. And in some other countries, centr…
I own some TRP. They offer a million different funds, but only just ...let's say "several" funds that shine vs. peers. OTCFX, PRSVX and PREMX deserve mention. The linked article from Ted paints in broad brush-strokes. On that basis, well, at least a…
Yes, that's what's supposed to happen. The rapid-fire computerized trading has divorced the Markets from Main Street, methinks. Look at what happened to oil yesterday. I heard remarks today on Bloomberg to the effect that QE3 will juice the Markets,…
I voted "aggressive," but not by very much. I recently added SFGIX, took some from PREMX and put it into TRAMX and also bought DLFNX, all in the same dollar-amounts.
We have some points of intersection. And is it one or both of my Matthews funds which hold Jardine Matheson? It's in my mix, somewhere....These days, after waiting for my ship to come in, I'm able now to add some basics to my portfolio which have be…
Hmmmm. I grin when I see many of these polls/measuring sticks. They are contrived.
What is the opposite of GREED? Is it FEAR? Bzzzzzzzzzz. WRONG. But thanks for playing, anyway. The OPPOSITE of GREED is a sense of INNER CONTENTMENT aka PEACE OF MI…
Yup. I'm heavy in EM bonds. My PREMX was down 2 cents. It's been down very mildly over the past few days. My MAINX was up a penny. Best performer was TRAMX, up by 1.38% on the day, but that's just 2.96% of portfolio.
As usual, B.R. shoots straight, no varnish, with the bark on. Thank you, Skeeter. When I read or listen to B. Ritholtz, I know I'm not going to be at the receiving-end of a big snow-job.
Reply to @Charles:
Thanks, Charles. Quite. And at present, things are still quite simple. The number of separate fund houses I'm involved with is THREE. Holding just 7 funds among them. That will change shortly, but still not unwieldy.
I just read the article posted at the top of this thread. Why am I not surprised? And why am I feeling just a bit smug right now about doing my own homework and making my own decisions and pulling my own triggers and dealing with individual fund hou…
Reading this thread is reassuring, interesting. I suppose I'm not surprised, but the straightforward reply from AF is heartening, giving encouragement rather than doubt. Of course, there are no guarantees, either.
Thanks, AndyJ. I've received some additional input elsewhere too, which has me deciding to go with DLFNX. I don't have enough available to do DBLFX. (That's the larger-minimum requirement, yes?) Seems to me I got lotsa bases covered, but not a core …
I put my friend in PRSVX a couple of years ago, and he's still speaking to me. I replaced it in my own portfolio with MSCFX....You cannot argue a bit with the successful, long track record of PRSVX.
Greetings, Dian. I want to ask, how large is a "large" inheritance? Anyhow:
1. Yes, pay off debt.
2. PRESERVATION of capital must be a chief concern.
-That means: lots of safe bonds or bond funds with regular dividends AND
-invest…
Diversify. But yes, for the small-cap portion of your holdings, MSCFX is a great candidate. Others that I can recommend also include two from TRP: PRSVX and OTCFX, but between the three, I would choose Mairs and Power. Also look at WSCVX.
"Break a…
TSELX seems not a BAD option, with a low minimum to get in. But beware the annual extortion fee ("maintenance fee") if you do not hold mucho mucho thousands of dollars in the fund. Anyhow, it's the same everywhere now. I do NOT like the above-averag…
Reply to @scott: Thanks, man. For me, 8 funds is a self-imposed maximum I want to have to worry about. Currently, since I'd already plowed my TRP small cap value (PRSVX) into my PREMX bucket, it's outpaced my other stuff lately, after a pretty good …
(Quoting:) "The main thrust is whether a person's natural or learned skill sets have any impact upon their ability to analyze and then make sense of the data (whatever it may be) to form a sensible investment plan with appropriate holdings for their…
(Thanks, OJ. And Mark: do I understand correctly? I THINK I do... Given what money is and how it is used, and given what it can procure--- the truth is that EVERY money-decision is a choice involving ethical considerations. Yes.)
(Quoting from above:) "...I strongly believe that experience matters a lot in the business world. Not only does experience matter for the elite worker classes (doctors, scientists, engineers), but also for the more mundane, but essential, groupings …
My fav. writer, maybe: check out the Hemingway home. Don't go if you don't like cats. There are DOZENS of housecats roaming around the place. All part of the attraction. "You can't swing a dead cat" without stepping over one of them. But the docent …
