I know you are not a fan of his, Mona (understatement :) )
Another Bills fan!!! Junkster just sent me a note saying the same. GO BILLS! They will be right down the road from me when training camp starts next week at St. John Fisher College. But tickets sold out in hours, so I won't be going. Are you from the area, Western NY?
The fund has received the most inflows in the last 12 months than during any other 12 month period in the last 10 years.
I hate hearing that, but I suppose opening up that institutional ticker, TRAIX, added to the inflows. I wish they didn't do that…
Small baby steps, gummint money fund
c
@Crash, this may be a dumb question, but are you taking these small baby steps from the sweep account to the MM account? Or is this new money you are adding to your Schwab account. Don't want to state the obvio…
Yes, you've got it @Crash. I usually place it when a stock has good gains, and I don't want to lose them. If a stock has reached or is close to fair value it may be time to implement a trailing stop. The percentage you put in for the stop (sell) con…
Clearly someone who has never looked at earthquake insurance (10%-20% deductibles)
Well @msf, obviously living in upstate NY, I don't look very often at earthquake insurance policies. Okay, well, actually never, but thanks for the insight. Not sure …
@Old_Joe, my question really is, is it possible to have a $50,000-100,000 deductible HO policy with any of the insurance companies available to you? Basically self-insuring for anything other than total loss of your home burning in a wild-fire storm…
Bought a 5 year government agencies bond today yielding 6.25%. Callable of course. Ride the ride until it ends, but with inflation higher for longer, maybe that could last a year or so.
As you've said @hank, gold has had a heck of a ride ytd. I ha…
@Crash, just for info. For another way to sell, my preference most often is to use 'trailing stop'. In that way you can ride the stock higher before it starts to significantly drop. Why cut the flowers before they've fully grown. There are some reas…
BTW, at least with auto insurance, if a small damage, don't even call insurance. So, call insurance only when damage is clearly much more than the deductible.
Agree @yogibearbull. Same with HO insurance. Make a claim and they will raise your rates. …
@Old_Joe, I'm curious. Deductibles seem to be a big lever for insurance companies. If you were to ask for say a $50k or even a $100k deductible, would they do that with lower premiums? Obviously this would only be for catastrophic occurrences, but t…
I have not done anything 'Morningstar' in many years. Guess what, I found other ways to get what I wanted. I don't miss it in the least. Most of my research and inquires are through Schwab, though I must say their portfolio info is lacking. I moved …
Question for you smart guys, so given all this talk on divie's, the only reason to pick a stock that gives higher dividends than other stocks is if it is held in a taxable account since dividends are taxed less than regular income, right? There is z…
What a pain in the butt, @fred495. Sorry you had to deal with all that. After doing it ourselves for close to 45 years, we've been having our taxes done by a local financial office for the past 6 years. Even though I hate paying the bill for their s…
In dollar terms for my $1M umbrella policy, I'm paying ~$270/yr with NYCM. Erie quoted me ~$185 for a 1-year policy, so the cost per insurance company can vary greatly.
I don't know how RLGBX invests on the bond side either @BenWP. I don't know much about it at all, though it looks like the same stocks in the top 10 at similar percentages to CGBL. The return trend is very similar also. I've always liked the America…
@Observant1, just for information in case you didn't know, Capital Group Core Balanced ETF, CGBL, from American funds parent company Capital Group is I believe a clone or at least very similar to RLBGX in stock holdings. In my quest to have mostly b…
I assume you mean post office mailing (?) I haven't snail-mailed a tax form in over 10 years so I'm no help. I guess it could be debated whether electronic filing is more or less safe, but I trust electronic filing more than the post office, myself.…
MINT has always been talked about as a cash-like substitute on this board, since I've been coming here. I've never owned it but do own similar, steady-eddy funds, FLRN and RPHYX in my withdrawal bucket.
@Sven, I also like the stock, Builders Firstsource BLDR. I first bought it in 2022 after a positive article in Barrons and it did very well for me. But, I made the mistake of selling it in Dec 2023, the reverse of the Peter Lynch quote, water the fl…
My point is that Umbrella is there so you do not have to get your hands dirty with someone whose interests may not be aligned with yours.
@BaluBalu, what does that mean?
@Observant1, peace of mind, exactly why I bought it, even if unlikely ever needed. Most of our money is in IRAs and I have not looked at protection under lawsuits.
Thanks Observant.
Question for the group, I just purchased an umbrella policy. Do others have this insurance? It isn't that expensive, and it keeps you from losing a bundle in a law suit, for example someone badly hurt on your property or in a car…
Adding to bond funds, CSOIX and RSIIX. Also staying on the conservative side adding to balanced and alternative funds BLNDX, CGBL and LCR.
Also picked up a conservative commodities fund, COM, but that's more of a play than an investment.
Dan, they tell you on the fact sheet when the first call date is. Most of the time, from my experience, it is 6 months from purchase and 1-month intervals after that. Go to the fact sheet and go all the way to the bottom to see.
Put a good chunk of cash into a 1-year JPMorgan Chase CD at 5.5%. The cash was making 5.17% in the Schwab MM so a small upgrade. Yes, it's callable, but good for at least 6 months.
Put a little play money into COM (DIREXION AUSPICE BRD CMDT STRG E…
What else is working over the past month is commodity funds, agriculture specifically (DBA), but commodities such as gold, energy and others seem to be zigging when the general stock market zags. For momentum followers, is commodities the place to b…
Rest in hell, OJ. A coward even to his death bed.
I don't need to watch a 'special' about the trial almost 30 years later. The trial had more to do with the contempt and distrust the black community had for the LA police department more so than the…
I'm actually amazed how easily UConn handled every opponent, even Perdue which had to be one of the top 5 teams in the tournament. Repeat champion says a lot for that program and that coach, Dan Hurley.
Rumor-mill has it Kentucky wants Hurley as t…
@Tarwheel, I've had multiple CDs called since it was my preference to get higher return as long as available by buying callables. Different philosophy then everyone else here, but I figured the reason for re-calls would be the same reason to start i…
Hope you got to see something @Devo. Cloudy day here in Rochester. No sun or moon to be seen. Got pretty dark for a minute or 2, but that was the extent of our celestial experience.
