Thank you sma3! We are spending this summer in northwest again. I have no quiet place I can be before noon eastern (9 am here). Library opens at 9am! I've set up a session for Friday, 2 pm eastern ... posted on board. But, if that does not work, just call me at 805 468 9599 ... if I can pick up I will. Hopefully, can pick a day where you can attended from noon on. Very happy to do! c
Is was just the data at the time David wrote the definition ... not even sure what period. Was meant to illustrate the amount of annual variability a fund could experience based on its STDEV value, for example. c

Chip recently posted the 3rd quarter MFO ratings update to the main site Search Tools. Please see Miraculous Multi-Search, Great Owl Funds, Three Alarm Funds, and Fund Dashboard of Profiled Funds. The main site offers a very basic set of search too…
Since inception Hussman funds have been one of great destroyers of capital in the mutual fund industry, except for the fees they generate, which are currently as high as 2% per year. And even still, they maintain an AUM of $600M. Can you believe tha…
O'Shaughnessy Funds rose to MFO's "Upper" Family Rating this past month, which is good to see. All its 5 funds have fared very well against their competition this past year.
"An important factor for me is reducing minimums to get into institutional funds. For example, you can get into PIMIX with $25K at Vanguard. At Schwab, you'll need $100K."
Thank you msf ... I did not realize that.
I suspect the trading fee remains…
Yep, I like Fidelity too and am currently with them because they won the benefits business for the company I retired from. But this article was between Schwab and Vanguard. After a couple years now, I think I found the Schwab platform easier to nego…
Hi Mark. Yes, I'd like to get Junkster's position here as well. In my case, I'd rather avoid dealing with spreads and limit trades, if possible. And, I take comfort in expecting that traditionally (I know there can be exceptions, but so far I consid…
Thank you Junkster.
I have considered DPFNX, but will look closer. I remember feeling a bit uncomfortable about the advisor in 2017, which was not helped when I saw this earlier this year ...

Sweet. Thanks Shiv. Hi Junkster. Please share any insight from Brian. When I queried briefly a couple months ago, Tom Miner insisted they keep finding good opportunities. Certainly, their performance has not suffered, especially when compared to PIM…
All 11 Baillie Gifford funds have outperformed their peers since launch in US. YTD, however, its international/EM funds have followed their categories down ... now in 6th month of drawdown. And, last month its two growth funds dipped with FB. Still…
Good article by Jaffe.
" ... investors need to build portfolios they can stick with ... "
I might change the "portfolios" to "a strategy" but, I get it.
Good for him.

@davidrmoran. I'm very fortunate to have worked for a very good company a very long time when pensions actually existed. So, not too much pressure for yield ... as long as nothing awful happens. And yes, I know about my jewel of a daughter. I (half)…
@davidrmoran. Ha! Yes, after being heavy for years in BAC (big win) and FAAFX (massive disappointment), reached a level where I'm happy to make just to make a steady return. AKA ... risk averse. Even then, I know low vol does not always mean low ris…
Recently initiated holding in ZEOIX and added to IOFIX. Plus, recently picked up GE at under $13 ... it had a really good day today (ha). Own just three mutual funds currently: SIGIX, ZEOIX, IOFIX. Plus MINT.
It's painful to see $QMNIX, $QSPIX and $QLEIX get crushed over the past couple of months. Seems like they got caught up in the massive short squeeze.— Samuel Lee (@svrnco) June 22, 2018
Grandeur Peak, recommended strongly by David (and Sam), continues to be an MFO Top Fund Family. All seven of its funds have beaten their peers handsomely since launch. Its two open funds, Global Stalwarts (GGSOX) and International Stalwarts (GISYX),…
Thanks Junkster! Yes, openice has been working hard on the Holbrook profile. I've stayed heavy in IOFIX, despite your cautions ... which I'm always sensitive too. But sounds like you've stayed in too, even with the aum increase, so that makes me fee…
Nice msf, thank you. I did have a Schwab checking account for years, and a CC if I remember. I do think we need to looking for higher savings/checking interest rate giving the rise in fed rates lately. Hope all is well, c
@Ben.
The MFO Risk is relative max volatility (of STDEV, DSDEV, Ulcer) versus that of SP500 ...
POPFX is still an equity fund. But, of those, it has about as low a volatility as it gets without holding large cash or bond allocation.

The thrill of gathering assets at hedge fund expense ratios. Gotham averages 2.5% er. Half charge more than 3%. But Gotham's been winning since launch. 20 of 21 funds have handsomely beaten their peers. This year, however, they have generally follow…
