Sears this Morning/Top Holders

Was $60 earlier this month and $100+ a year or two ago. I thought this was supposed to be a "value stock" when it was over $100.

Saw a blip this am on the magic tube about same store sales down again for the past quarter; and that 100-150 stores will be closed.

Some observations: (1) service (with or without the friendly smile) at our area KMarts has deterioriated badly over past year or so to the point we happily drive extra distances to a Home Depot or WalMart for certain items. (2) Amazon is eating their lunch. The second is more significant as is going to affect a whole lot of these big discount retailers. Just happens that right now KMart is the weakest sister.

You get more service at Home Depot that at K-Mart? Wow. That says a lot.

Race to the bottom among the retail giants? Varies by location. But prize to K Mart for run down stores, dirty or non-functioning restrooms & demoralized employees prone to criticize management openly.

Hank- if you are finding better service at Home Depot, then KMart is surely in a death spiral. Going to Home Depot out here is pretty much like going to a supermarket in Russia.

Awe, come on OJ!
At least the HD greeters smile when ya pass through the door. And their plumbing works if ya need to take a **** Ours got do-it-yourself scanners at checkout - much faster than a pokey KMart clerk. And the fellas in the back will occasionally saw a board to fit your needs - once ya track em down.

Hi Scott. I'm amazed Sears lasted this long as they have done nothing to update their stores/service to become more competitive. K-Mart is not far behind, which is a shame as I liked the local K-Mart store before it closed a few years ago.
