The case involves the stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students in November. Story relies on sources accessed before a gag-order was issued. Mind-blowing is the scope of the investigation by the FBI and state / local law enforcement. Genetic testing & tracking taken to a new level. Searching knife-sheath purchases across Amazon & EBay. Learning the suspect’s cellular phone service was temporarily turned off around the time of the killings. Poring over thousands of auto registration records based on tips and blurry images. Investigating leads on social media. DNA samples taken from from a home’s trash. And scouring videos captured by UPS delivery truck cameras.

A horrific crime. A fascinating read if you can get into the NYT.
