I recently bought a new router hyped with life time "security" . My son says , Hells-Bells isn't the old old secure! You need a password to use it. Yet I keep hearing it's possible to get into ones internet & listen & watch what going on at your residence. SO is it possible to have your internet to be somewhat invaded? Thanks for any replies, Derf
Late at night and long after I have turned off my laptop, between 3:30 and 5:00 AM, I sometimes hear it make a standard chirp. It just happened again last night. I always wonder why this happens.
Routers communicate with the internet devices in your home two possible ways: via a directly wired Ethernet cable, and/or via Ethernet using a radio channel. If that radio channel is strong enough to broadcast outside your home (which is typical), it can be received by anyone.
While anyone may receive that signal, it would still take sophisticated hacking knowledge to actually decode your router traffic.
This is why security experts advise extreme are if you use a "hotspot" outside your home, like maybe in a coffeeshop or other public place. The routers in those locations can be "listened to" by anyone in the vicinity.
@Old_Joe On TV I keep getting a pop up,that says, "click this button to find screen saver." I don't have that button on my firefox remote. I then hit the main button on remote & what I'm watching comes on. This can happen 7-8 times in less than an hour. Since my son tried this & that, it's seems to help, but I'm still having that pop up , but to a much lessor extent. This week end will be the test as more people watching football & baseball. Have a good weekend O_J , Derf
