How to cope with Trump anxiety

edited April 25 in Off-Topic
“First it was the vitriol and inescapable negativity of the presidential campaign, and now it seems that we wake up daily to an endless stream of shocking executive orders and headlines questioning our national security and the foundation of our electoral process. Our current environment, amplified by 24-hour news outlets and social media, has created a level of stress, nervousness, and resentment that has intruded into many people’s lives and intimate relationships, the likes of which I’ve not seen in nearly 30 years of clinical work.”

  • I'd merely add a couple:

    - next election engage your brain before filling in those little circles
    - also use your right to vote. How many people did not vote again? (hint 36%)
  • I had eye surgery Thursday and couldn’t look at the news for 24 hours. Problem solved. Also ,,,, watch more baseball and less news.

Hope the surgery went well Larry. Absolutely miraculous what they can do nowadays.

Full disclosure: The linked article & quotation is from 2017.
  • Thanks Hank. I can see like it’s 2017!! And relatively speaking the first term was the good old days. Back then the bad news came daily,,, not hourly.
  • Benzodiazepines.
  • @larryB glad it went well. My eye doc says I have cataracts, but too early for surgery. But that was in May of 2024. Great idea, BTW, @Mona.
  • Crash. I am glad I did it. Check your messages.
  • Agree. We must not let this turmoil consume our personal life. Remember that we all have fulfilling life before this administration came along. Lately, I have been calling old friends by calling (not texting) and it is such a hoot. The other is spending quality time with my wife doing things as a couple before the kids came along. Spring is here and the gardening has been a wonderful heaven for us.

@larryB, hope your surgery went well.
  • Thanks Sven. Went very well and doing great. And all good tips. After eye surgery it’s easier to see the news but also the beauty all around us.
  • So glad you are recovering well. Out west where the sun are strong, we worn sunglasses frequently.
