Where is the print media hiding the economic stats released earlier today? 26 June, '25

Michael McKee was all over it on Bloomberg in the middle of the night....

  • Going to need more information...
  • Import/Export, Jobless claims, etc...
  • Making me work for it, eh? lol

"US Jobless claims declined to 236,000 as continuing claims increased to 1.97 million, the highest since November 2021."

"Elsewhere, the US merchandise-trade deficit unexpectedly widened in May while imports were little changed, and first-quarter GDP was revised down to -0.5% compared to the second reading of -0.2%."

For comparison, 1st Q 2024 GDP was tepid at 1.6%. That minus .5% makes last years number look awesome in retrospect. Has anyone told Donald?

I wouldn't doubt a bigger number for 2nd Q 2025, simply because the threat of tariffs likely pulled forward a lot of spending.

Something about the statement that 1Q imports "were little changed", baffles me. How can that be, when the story has been early import "hoarding" in the face of coming tariffs? Did order cancellations offset "upfronting" efforts?
  • It is 92 degrees here and I am inside and very bored. Can you tell?
  • Soon the regime will not allow any negative reports,,, inflation will be low all the time,,, as will be unemployment. The GDP will forever be growing and those individuals questioning the numbers will be subject to disappearance by masked armed thugs. Discussions like this one will be monitored and subject to regime censorship. Any doubt?
  • Thanks, man. Ya, I'm seeing "we're hiring" signs all over the place here. Notably, the (stinking, lousy, useless PRIVATELY run) bus company on the island. Don't tell me you're providing a service, when I must wait over an hour for a stinking bus. So, lots of unfilled openings. And yet, "continuing claims increased...."

As one Army commander after another failed to bring the Confederacy to heel, Mary Todd Lincoln said: "I could fight an Army better, myself." Ya....... Tariffs. Then tariffs suspended. Bombings. Lawless wannabe federal dress-up fake agents in t-shirts and vests arresting people to fill QUOTAS dictated by little bald Stevie. Diluting support for NATO, Ukraine. Razing Gaza. (Joe started it, though.) And now, he threatens to replace J. Powell early? Orange Clown Show. I could run a country better, myself.
  • (Not 92 here. Just warm and sunny and pleasant. Always a breeze here. I'll soon be flying into a Spokane heat wave, though. Then my partner in crime and I will drive to the BC/Alberta Rockies and will visit Calgary, too. Just a week.)

  • Enjoy your trip. Don't even think about looking at the "news". You'll thank me later.

You can see almost anything you want to see in the day-to-day numbers.

How about ”S&P Closes 3 Points Shy of All Time High” … ?
