ICE recruitment: Forgive student loans and $50,000 bonus

edited August 6 in Off-Topic
ICE recruitment Forgive student loans and $50,000 bonus

Based on recent reports and official announcements, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is offering recruitment incentives that include student loan forgiveness and signing bonuses.

Here's a breakdown of the incentives:
Student Loan Repayment/Forgiveness: ICE is offering student loan repayment and forgiveness options, with some reports indicating potential forgiveness of up to $60,000. Note that ICE has had a student loan repayment program in place since 2008, but it appears to be actively promoting and expanding it with the current recruitment drive.

Signing Bonuses: ICE is offering signing bonuses of up to $50,000.

Important Considerations

Recruitment Drive Context: These incentives are part of a larger ICE recruitment campaign aimed at hiring thousands of officers, lawyers, and investigators, with a stated goal of increasing deportation numbers.

Eligibility and Requirements: Eligibility for these incentives and specific details regarding the application process and repayment/bonus structures would be outlined in the official job announcements and recruitment materials published by ICE and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Sources: Information about these incentives is widely reported by various news outlets and appears to be confirmed by official sources like DHS and ICE.

  • I just read yesterday, they're poaching normal police/sheriff ranks in Florida. DeSantis is trying to stem the flow because I guess they're losing a lot of personnel. It's a sweet deal from what I've read, 50k but you have to commit to at least 5 years.
  • Hi @gman57

I remain concerned about the 'given authority' to some of these folks. There remain problems with reporting standards for local police hires who come to a 'new' community while leaving a prior record of problems elsewhere. Some folks should not be given 'authority' and a handgun. Not fit for duty.

Those are likely perfect candidates for Noem et. al.

  • Hi @hank Interesting. There are several very questionable suggestions in that write.
  • Do I have to give it back if they don't like me running around in an unmarked black van with a lace face mask jumping out and spreading love to workers?
  • Hi @Anna One could guess the contract is well written, with a lot of 'therefore', 'however' and similar loophole words 'not' in your favor. Worst case is that you would on the bad side of ICE and may become 'disappeared', eh?
Have a pleasant remainder of your evening.

@Anna - Catch has it right. Should you somehow “disappear” you’ll no longer need the money. For ideas on proper interview attire take a look at some scenes in Lord of the Flies. Got any old war paint lying around?

William Goulding’s 1950s Lord of the Flies is anything but funny. The novel itself is better than the two film versions that I’m familiar with.

A bunch of pre-teen boys from an exclusive British private school are stranded on a remote island after an aircraft accident (likely shot down during WW II). In the beginning they establish a democratic government and behave civilly while awaiting rescue. Of course, everyone knows what happens. They devolve slowly into savages with the loud and aggressive Jack leading a band that overthrows the elected government. By the end they have set fire to the island and are facing certain extinction, only to be “rescued” from their foolishness by the last minute arrival of someone from ”The Grown-up World”. The grown-up is a British Naval officer decked out in full uniform, his warship in the distance. What a supreme irony! And it leads of course to the question - ”Who will rescue the grown-ups from their folly?”

@Anna - I haven’t missed your point. The issues surrounding ICE and the tactics being employed are not funny. I would hope the laws (immigration & otherwise) could be enforced in a manner in keeping with our democratic principles. Obviously, that’s not the current case. In addition, I hope our elected Congress starts exercising its Constitutional “power of the purse.” They seem to have abdicated it.
