Sunday’s NFL game of the week on the TV. A 6-pack at your side. And logged in to your IRA at Robinhood placing bets on which team will score next. What could possibly go wrong here?
  • That is not investing. It is gambling just like lottery tickets.
  • @hank Yes with a 6 or 12 pak, what could go wrong!?
  • @Sven You're 100% right. By the way have you purchased your Powerball lottery tickets yet? Over 1 B if you take annuity!

Well … say a keyboard error? You meant to wager $50. But in your inebriated state you entered $50,000? Learned about it the next morning.
  • That would assume that I win. Odds are slim. Will spend the money on investment books.

Thinking, Fast and Slow, by Daniel Kahneman
Though not exclusively an investing book, this groundbreaking work on human psychology explains how biases and flawed thinking impact financial decisions. Kahneman, a Nobel laureate, details the contrast between intuitive thinking (fast) and analytical reasoning (slow). Investors who grasp these insights gain a crucial edge by recognizing how emotions and overconfidence can undermine rational choices.

  • @Crash I read his book many years ago. I read through most of the link I posted & won't participate in buying any sport contracts.
    As for slow & fast thinking I'm about 75% - 25%.
    Getting slower every day, Derf

This morning news states : Ho-Chunk Nation is suing two firms . platforms, that offer sport contracts "investing", gambling.
Probably a good thing to nip it in the bud! Hopefully they can stop this.

Thanks guys. Never heard of that book (Thinking, Fast and Slow). Will definitely resd it.

Recently bought some MSGS at under $200. Owns the NY Knicks (Basketball) and Rangers (Hockey) teams. All the online betting has been good for sports franchises. This reported new ability “invest” in the outcome of games thru a brokerage account is another welcome tail wind. Just hope people don’t gamble away their retirement savings.

  • ho-chunk has no chance. trump crime family well on-board for the 2 largest event gambling marketplaces.

maybe they should consider donald somehow managed to go bust multiple times in an industry where the house always wins.

Thanks @Mona. Part of Vanity Fair & the mug shot was accessible. The other source blocked by a paywall. Will do some research on my own. Looks like a mean dude.

Barron’s likes the stock. The break-up value is apparently double what it’s trading at. But Dolan has a controlling interest through a special share class he owns and refuses to sell-off parts of the franchise to realize its real value. He’s angered a lot of investors. Suits me fine. Get paid to wait in this case.

Vanity Fair: ”Dolan’s use of facial-recognition technology to kick his enemies out of his venue has gotten him on the bad side of state and city lawmakers, and drawn the attention of the state attorney general ….”
  • ho-chunk? please, someone translate for me?
  • ...Just reserved two of those I listed above at the public library: Kahneman's book and the first one linked, by Scott Galloway: "The Algebra of Wealth."

I've read Galloway's published essays and listened to him on YouTube. He also runs a podcast with Kara Swisher. And he teaches at the Stern School at NYU. Very relatable, if you ask me. Freely admits mistakes, even bankruptcy ...more than once? Now, he would never be able to find the time to spend all that he has. But it's not greed that drives him. "There's no better feeling you'll ever have than when you give away money." To charity, to family, or what have you.
