New Mexico first state to offer universal child care

Under the program, New Mexico residents earning up to 400% of the federal poverty level, or annual household incomes of about $124,000, qualified for free child care, with any existing co-pays waived.

    +1. But there's a salary cap. Not really universal.

    I actually have no problem with the salary cap. But, point taken.

    Imagine if more states decide to do this and institute similar policies with health care. A state like Indiana, with labor shortages might attract/retain more talent, building a stronger tax base. Such a program could impose restrictions that encourage dual income households, raising labor participation rates. Encouraging more people to re-enter the workforce.

    If jobs are going to be re-shored, maybe this is something to consider in view of labor shortfalls.
