Senate Republican Tillis: "I will oppose the confirmation of ANY nominee for the Fed"

Following are excerpts from a current report in Yahoo News:
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) said the criminal investigation into Fed Chair Jerome Powell has called the “independence and credibility” of the Justice Department under President Donald Trump into question following the president’s consistent criticism of Powell’s leadership.

Tillis posted the following on X on Sunday night:
If there were any remaining doubt whether advisers within the Trump Administration are actively pushing to end the independence of the Federal Reserve, there should now be none. It is now the independence and credibility of the Department of Justice that are in question.

I will oppose the confirmation of any nominee for the Fed—including the upcoming Fed Chair vacancy—until this legal matter is fully resolved.
He made his remarks after The New York Times reported Powell was facing a criminal investigation over the multi-year renovation of the Fed building.

  • Thank you. Might there be any real cracks in the spineless Rup's and their mindless following of the insane at the top of the pile??? Do they listen to anyone in their families or trusted friends about how broken everything has become, and what they are a part of?

Damned if I have a clue. Though hope springs eternal. Maybe I'm the moron here.
  • Will this be in next week’s headline?

“Sen. Tillis is being investigated for allegedly not paying $200 in payroll taxes for babysitter in 1990.”

Note: If you never filed the return (which is the case if one didn't file the payroll tax forms in 1990), the statute of limitations never starts.

The IRS can technically go back to 1990, 1980, or 1970 to collect unpaid taxes if a return was never filed for them. If the babysitter goes to the media today, the IRS is legally allowed to send the crook a bill for the 1990 taxes tomorrow with 50% penalty plus 35 years of interest payments calculated using true inflation figure of 5%…

Funny how these folks (usually but not always the GQP/MAGA-types) only grow a spine when they're not facing re-election....

  • to be clear, any retreating gop politician criticizing trump\MAGA is a rare outperformer.

compare against the ~dozen gop ditching midterms for 'family time'.
  • Pretty strong condemnation, though definitely late to start now.
