Lynn,
Thank you so much. I am planning on a 3-year ladder since I am a year away from retirement. Lots of spreadsheet work to calculate the income replacement needed. This ladder will create a steady income stream. So thank you for all your help.
I moved back to high quality bond funds this year. Some of which you covered in the SA article. For now, I will stay with agency bonds to the bond ladder. I will pick active managers for corporate bonds.

How China handled the situation may not work in democratic society? It is hard to imagine closing down New York City or any metropolitan cities in Europe for several weeks. How South Korea handled their situation may be more workable, while Italy …
@Tarwheel, if family longevity factor is a concern, taking SS at your full retirement age makes sense. Here is more information from Vanguard on the cost-risk analysis and break even point.

Nonsense! Like Mark said - let's move the voting day up. 30 days from today would be perfect.
There is little risk of coronavirus exposure when voting in the open. Don't touch your face and wash you hands thoroughly afterward. Skip the crow…
Your friend need to review his retirement strategy carefully. It is still not too late since he has 6-7 years before retirement. He may consider using an asset advisor to guide his planning. In my humble opinion, his 70/30 allocation is too aggre…
"Fear" for sure. Also this cut is on Sunday so that it stabilizes the market comes Monday morning.
CNN this morning discussed that the Fed may purchase assets just like back in 2008 crisis. This includes bonds, stocks and ETFs!
In 2008 th…
Ample opportunities abound when the market drops 1,000 points per days. Still think the bottom has not been reached. When layoff news starts US there will be further decline. This time a quick V-shape recovery is highly unlikely.
Not surprise at all in that he cannot read well without his glasses. He had the same problem when he cannot read the prom in SNL and he was never invited back again. Steve Martin, on the other hand, was simply incredible and was a frequent host in…
Actually, the market could get even worse starting with the American consumer driven economy.
it looks like predictions of a “V” shaped downturn with a quick, sharp rebound are probably off base.

folks are looking to the Fed to do something.
Let's face it. The Fed cannot manufacturers corona vaccine overnight. The best scenario is at least a year away. Realistically the Fed can only do so much by lower the interest rate and the race to ze…
@old_Joe, There are experienced doctors who are being deploy to head up this effort. I came across this NYT article from Apple News. Dr. Deborah L. Birx who oversaw the global AIDS epidemic during the Obama administration is also involved.

@Art, I echoed comments from Mike, catch and msf. You can't go wrong with either Scheab and Fidelity. Noted there are differences that you may or may not need and you can decide. For us we have done business with Fidelity and Vanguard who they se…
@Mark,
Try good old fashion of soap and water based on CDC recommendation. Don't use volka.

That is apple to orange comparison. Both asset classes declined but with different magnitude. Junk bonds and emerging market bonds (USD hedged and local currencies) fare the worst among other bond sectors. US treasury performed the best since tha…
Visited Costco early this week. Saw signs of panic and hoarding of bottle water, toilet paper, hands sanitizer, bulk bag of rice and canned fish. Things are far from over and will likely to last into Q2. Many signs are not encouraging. Spring br…
@catch22, very timely and great allocation. You should do well if this correction continues. We rebalanced several weeks ago as the market peaked. Will sit tight until the smoke clear. Don't know if you subscribe to WSJ. Here is a piece from J…
I have been watching this for several weeks since the virus news broke late December 2019. There is a fear that drive investors toward the safest asset, US treasury. This pushes down the yield while raises the price. Not sure if Treasury is over-bou…
I agree with @rono and @old_Joe. Center for Disease Contol already sent out plenty of warning and ways to protect individuals, i.e. good personal hygiene practices. Yet the WH is treating this as low risk. By the way, where is Ben Carson? He is …
But, how much good will that do in the short term if it turns out people are afraid to get on a plane or go to the grocery store?
To stop spreading the virus China they lock down the entire city and it slows the spread somewhat. Cannot image this …
This cornavirus could become pandemic. Everything is globally connected and this could slower growth or even recession.

Look like a train wreck in slow motion.
Just like anything else you read here and elsewhere. Got to do your homework and ascertain whether the data make sense.

MFO Premium brought it to my attention. Virtually no press on the fund. Review the record and risk compare to other EM debt local currency funds. It is quite good on the risk. Still untested in severe down market such as 2008. So go slow...
Moved away from Matthews funds awhile back when Andrew Foster left. Nothing today at Matthews are truly exceptional but the fee are above average. I can always find more cheaper alternatives while having the same performance.

Don't forget to pay attention to management fee and the underlying funds used in target date funds. Next is compare their performance with their peers through the market cycles (if they have the track record back to 2008 if all possible).
